I wasn't saying that Pons was the player in OZ.

Jim Pons was a bass player.

Ian Underwood was a pianist as well. He even had a bachelor degree from some university on that instrument.

According to Ben Watson's book, Ian Underwood has a degree in composition, not as a piano soloist. Makes you wonder whether he influenced some of FZs compositions...

Good point Stud!

I thought he had a BA in piano and MA in composition.

EDIT: He graduated from Yale with a BA in composition in 1961 and completed a Masters degree in composition at UC Berkeley in 1966. He was a concert pianist specializing in Mozart.

Studebaker, I hope you're proud of yourself. When I see that picture, my mind registers 'Studebaker' not 'Ian Underwood'.

Thanks alot.

Yeah, it's Satie. I think that picture comes from the movie 'Cinema' by Renee Clair.

Also concerning Ian, remember the intro to Little House on Burnt Weenie? He practically sight read that piece. Now that is something!

How else would I know that it was the West End Cafe in Detroit, an after hours club. The other members were: Yousef Lateef and Tommy Flanegan and it was 2 different years. One highlight was Milt Jackson sitting in and playing the piano with 2 fingers.
