Hello Friends... I'm new to the forum too, although this is not my first post (ZPZ 7-27 at Meadowbrook was). I must say, there are lots of cool, friendly people here. I look forward to talking with as many of you as I can... except maybe Trendmonger.

Anyone know of any existing thread about "how I discovered FZ"? Or "First Zappa song heard"?

Thanks for the welcome, feetlightup!

"Shoogagoogagunga" is the name of a song from Dweezil's Confessions album. I'd have used my usual alias (Riff Raff) but it was already taken, along with every other permutation I could think of. I'm a big fan of both Dweezil and Frank, so this alias made sense - plus I figured it was likely that no one else had chosen it yet.

I'm good, just had a job interview, it went as well as was what Trendy would call; 'unexpected perfection'!

Great! I hope you get a job you enjoy. :)

Off topic, but - I see you're an Ibanez player? 8) Remind me to tell you about my late 80's Ibanez RG-550... The Guitar That Would Not Die.

Yes, I only started using Ibanez this year but I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more than my Strat. Please tell me this intriguing story. :D

My Ibanez RG-550 was my only electric guitar for over a decade... and it served me quite well in all my bar bands back then. I routinely beat the crap out of it, night after night... in a loving manner though.

The most memorable thing about that guitar is the night I had to defend myself with it. This dude - one of those typical ringside stumblers - was making me nervous, standing right at the edge of the stage. There was just something not right about this guy. All of a sudden, he leaped onto the stage and came running at me. I slipped my guitar off, held the neck like a baseball bat, and bashed this dude upside the head (a maneuver I learned from Keith Richards). He hit the floor, crawled away and was thrown out. I resumed playing, and my bandmates were just looking at me, slack-jawed.

The guitar didn't even go out of tune.

We used to record our shows for posterity, but the bass player forgot the tape machine that night. It sure would be fun to hear that incident again, as my volume was still wide open when I cracked that guy's skull, ha.

Anyway, that guitar is still alive and well... although it does need a fret job now. I'm glad you like your Ibanez! :D Their amps are great too.

Haha, great story! I have a Joe Satriani model, they're awesome, never tried Ibanez amps before though, I usually use Line 6 Spiders.

We'll I've stumbled upon this site and figured I'd introduce myself here.
Been a FZ fan for gawd...ummm 24 years (I'm 36). I bought on a (without previwhim "Freakout" used for a couple bucks in 6th grade (paperboy money well spent). One listen to "Help I'm a Rock" and "Hungry Freaks" and I was hooked.

Needless to say that I have always been a little outta step with the mainstream music scene since.

Favorite Five FZ albums (no particular order)

One Size Fits all
Shiek Yerbootie
You Are What You Is
Absolutely Free
Jazz Noise ...
---ok 6---
Greatest Band ...

K who'm i foolin I like just about all of them.

Other Favorite Artists though not all:

Residents
Love
Naked City (John Zorn)
Brian Eno
Robert Fripp
and of course the Captian.
Tom Waits

G`Day All, after being exposed to Zappa in the earlyish 1970s from about 12 years old .... therefore as a 13 year old i was there at the Sydney Town Hall for the Vietnam Moratorium Rally - and quite a few worthy ones since.

in 1977 i finally got to see Fz Live and instead of hearing all the crap we wuz after .. there was all this new crazy stuff ( Zoot Allures ) that rang true ..then we got the classics

the crowd was "going off" and in between one of the numbers each & every member of said audience had their thumb raised aloft ,roving spotlights probed & ensured no one was piking . then Fz announced that we were all to be congratulated as we were involved in the lowest form of audience partisipation ... we putz fourth our raised - ignighted - lighters as the set stage lighting resumed concert mode & for the very first time heard ... "The Torture Never Stops"

ahh that shows "the damage" haha Zoot being released in 77 must have thrown me off. Other memories include chain smoking musos & audience (ahh those were the days) and most of all just how sweet & story telling the instrumentals were live :D A feeling of loss as we did not get "Norman Gunston" jamming but still one of the most inspired concerts i have seen.

The next closest to that one was a bit later when Jean Luc Ponty did a marathon gig ..wherehe almost played till he dropped.

Just got good seats for sydney concert 2

* refined kewL happy daNce *
