I would love to believe hicks was a zappa fan but unfortuntalty I don't beleive he was. There is an excellent biography of him (i'll post the title once i get back in nashville where is its) but he was a big hendrix guy and a liked nirvana and the doors and anything hippies like.

His ideals would've clashed with franks as well, except on reilgious right/republicans, but Hick's drug views, and New Agey BS would've limited the amount of relation he could aquire too FZ's tunes.

Bottom line, he never mentioned FZ and its not chronicled at all in any book I've read of him.

Genius though

for me,

Lenny Bruce
Bill Hicks
George Carlin

All of the above. Amen.
And I think Lewis Black may eventually end up in that company as well.

But Hicks and Zappa... yeah,... I think they're really two different types. I don't think either would have disliked the other, but they were both so individualistic, it's hard to find any real common ground apart from the message of "Question Authority" or that kind of thing.

You have good taste my friend. All three are excellent. What do you think of Bill Maher?

Yea, Hicks was a musician himself. I have that little ep he did. It's okay.
I think he wanted to fuse the music with the routines (at least on record) as the posthumously completed ARIZONA BAY indicates. He seemed to like softer sounds...guess it was the only way to balance that non-stop monologue going on in his head. I believe he was into the muso fusion genre.

I was going to point out har far this thread got from the original topic...until I saw the Bill Hicks reference.
That was worth it.
