"Time out error. This time out error only shows when you are taking too long to enter a post or if a spam attempt has been made."

God damn it!!! I set up a post, and for the first time I got this message. This is definitely a new thing. Fuck! I hate taking the time to construct a post, only to have it totally wiped out due to this shit.

I don't know what OS you use, but I have Windows IE, and when I get that time-out error, I just click the back button (arrow at upper left, pointing left) a couple of times, until it reaches the page version I had before I clicked submit. (it still has my post on it)

I started this particular post in 1953, and I didn't get that message at all.

you can also click 'preview' a couple of times while you're constructing your post.

Just click the 'preview' button once, your post will appear in the previewm box, then click post and it's all done and dusted!

Yes, I used to lose the whole fucking thing in any version of "Windows" or the "classic" Mac OS in pre-Mac OS X days but now I don't in Mac OS X. I'm not sure about exceeding a "character limit" because I'm not sure where that ends now or if it does.

That I'm curious about: the possible "character limit" that may or may not exist here.

There seems to be no limit to the number of "characters" I've found on this forum.

Works for me. But I resent being called spam.

That seems to be the case now, feets. But I remember clicking "post" in the pre-crash days and being notified that I was beyond the "character limit". After losing everything a few times I learned to do a "Copy/Paste" into a blank text file on the computer here and make a good guess where I had to leave off saying "CONT'D." at the bottom and "CONT'D from previous." in a second post, beginning where I left off.
But there was also that strange notice that "Your post was not received" message back then and I'd click "post" several times only to find 2, 3, 4, 5 repetitions of the same post and to click to "delete" one in hopes of knocking the other repeats out always meant to delete all. That was a real fucker!
