I've been a huge Zappa fan going back to the early 70's, and am wondering when/if "Apostrophe" and "Overnight Sensation" might be released as a DVD-A 5.1 surround sound recordings. I recently picked up the Classic Album DVD-video of the history of the albums, and it's really sparked my interest to get these albums in surround sound. I originally bought them on vinyl in the old CD-4 Quad format, and truly believe that they should be released in a surrond sound format. The mixes of some of the music on the Classic Album DVD was suberb, and it reminded me why these albums must be re-released on DVD-A.

Any comments that Gail or anyone else could furnish would be welcome.

Thanks,

Pat

Exactly why would that be so cool? it ain't how Frank presented it to us. It would be weird.

i'm pretty sure quad versions of it existed. and seeing as how frank mixed it to quad then thats how he wanted it presented in quad. And yes it would be fuckign awesome regardless.

You're just a contrarian.

Nothing wrong with that.

i'd love the quad mixes of AP and OS but in 5.1 with the vocals in center. that's be great.

Do you really believe that if Frank was still alive he wouldn't be indulging in 5.1? That sort of thing was right up his alley.

Duh, Zappa presented these to us in the original quadraphonic surround sound of the day when they were released. If you never got a chance to hear the original quad releases in vinyl, you missed a great treat.

baby snakes (full show) in quad as frank mixed it in '79. or maybe he just mixed what made it into the film. either way all the avialable halloweens would make for a great yearly release.

I was selling hi-fi at the time of the CD-4 Quad releases
It was a shame that the format died...people didn't get it
The competing crappy SQ format didn't help
Sorta like what happened to the superior Beta format video
The inferior format prevailed because they got more licensees

There was only about 400 CD-4 releases
I've been hoping the same thing doesn't happen to DVD-A
And yes..Frank would be much more gung-ho in adopting the format
You don't have to remix to surround on DVD-A
Although the Apostrophe / Over-nite / Roxy mixes would be great to hear
(if they still exist)

I'd be happy to buy stereo remasters of Frank's stuff on DVD-A
and you can fit two albums on the double sided discs

Personally, I'd like to see a ten DVD-A set,
with all of Frank's hi-fi masterpieces in glorious 24bit 192k stereo

(BTW There is a torrent DTS quad of Apostrophe some guy did,
I've got it...but I haven't converted it yet...I've also got the original
vinyls...but don't have the JVC decoder anymore)
