If it's anyone's first album, I'd start with Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True.

Great first albums off the top of my head:

Television: Marquee Moon
Fiery Furnaces: Gallowsbird Bark
Phish - Junta
Saccharine Trust - Pagan Icons
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn

And so on.... mmm-kaay

Over-Nite Sensation

for the uninitiated to franks music i would go apostrophe/overnite sensation based on the fact that its very approachable.

My first Zappa album was The Grand Wazoo. If I just started out now I'd get Lather first or the You Can't Do That Onstage Anymore series.

My first Zappa album was One Size Fits All. I still recommend that one to the uninitiated.

I agree
One Size Fits All probably has the best variety and production for a first pick

Over-nite Sensation maybe has more good guitar solo's...& straight- ahead tunes

Grand Wazoo if you lean towards jazz

My first was Absolutely Free...great album..
but probably the worst sounding studio album

My first one I bought was Ship Arriving Too Late, but I'd heard Hot Rats because my dad had it. For a novice, I'd recommend YCDTOSA Volume 1 or 6 - those 2 have the best variety of different eras out of the YCDTOSA series.

Hey guys I think that Chunga's Revenge is worthy of a great BIG mention here as it has it all. Jazz-fusion, comedy, guitar virtuosity and overall Frank-ness

Just MHO
