The first Zappa vinyl I bought/heard was The Grand Wazoo in 1973, but I had been reading of him since 1967 and was instantly intrigued by his wit and philosophy. While I had heard of his "dirty" music, Wazoo was nothing like that. After listening for the first time to this recording I was hooked. This was not my father's Big Band music. Holy Crap! Just fuckin' amazing! Frankly (no pun intended) it's his instrumental (primarily orchestral and big band) music that really does it for me, but his social commentary is outrageously entertaining, too. In all honesty the last ten years of his recording career got a little tedious with his constant retooling of older material, but if I had hired a band of the caliber he did I wouldn't have been able to resist either. Finally he had a band that could play his vision for this material instead of having to dumb-down his arrangements so his band could play the music. I really miss the man's presence. And I regret that I never had the balls to write him while he was still able to reply.

Welcome to the boards. The Grand Wazoo was my first Zappa album purchase in the late 70's when I was still a child though my oldest of my older brothers was a fan since Uncle Meat came out, so I was exposed to this music at a very young age.

I think most of the time it is our oldest brother who pushed us in Zappa domain! 8)

Not me...both my older brothers' homes are Zappaless. (although my dad liked some of my Zappa records, but wished he didn't swear so much.)

Cool. It just sounds very inspirational to me so I put it to my signature.
