Hi folks, my name's Jake and I'm a brand new Zappa fan and message board poster. I'm attempting to listen to every single Zappa CD before I die both because I'm extremely curious about the man and his incredibly varied career and also as a way to get my mind off of the '08 Presidential election, which I firmly believe that neither Hillary nor Obama can win. So far, I've listened to 3 (Freak Out!, WOIIFTM and Baby Snakes), which I've quite enjoyed, and I've got 3 more (Hot Rats, Apostrophe' and You Are What You Is) on order. Any suggestions for where I should go from here? I was thinking about going through all of the '60s and early '70s albums first but I'm also very curious about Frank's classical work as well.

If you're planning on getting them all, just go in order. That's my advice.

It's impossible to guess with anyone but "Uncle Meat", "Roxy & Elsewhere" and "Läther" are three good bets.

One Size Fits All, Overnight Sensation are "classics" of the mid-70's. Since you like Baby Snakes, Sheik Yerbouti. The You Can't That on Stage Anymore Series is great too.

I agree that's the ideal way to go. I wish I could have done that.

I decided to skip ahead a little (okay, a bit more than a little) and tackle Läther next.

While I'm impressed with your taste, I am appalled by your lack of discipline.

After Lather and Sheik Yerbouti, I'll return to listening in chronological order the week of 3/3 - 3/7 with Uncle Meat.

I'm new to the forum, too.
If you can find it, 'We're Only in it For the Money' is a much better listen on
vinyl than on CD. Whoever remastered it for CD totally messed it up,
sounds NOTHING like it does on vinyl.
'Absolutely Free' has my favorite rendition of "Call Any Vegetable", and
'Just Another Band From L.A.' has my favorite rendition of 'Dog Breath".
