Is the current Zappa Plays Zappa tour allowing open taping??? I would love to tape the First Avenue show if permitted. Going to the show regardless, just hoping my gear can go with. Thanks!

Not only is taping officially cool, they also have a post-concert buffett backstage for tapers. All you have to do is show your tape to get in.

Tapers can enter a drawing to see who gets to spend the night with Sheila.

i saw people using cameras at all the shows that I went to. i assumed they weren't allowed but i didn't see security grabbing them away once we got in there.

Sure bring your DVC-Pro Camera. Tape the show, edit it in Final Cut, burn it to DVD and sell it here on the forum.
Gail welcomes that.....

almost forgot ... only bring 60-minute tapes; they stop the band every 30 minutes for a 7.5-second tape flip

Wait I have a solution, bring an extra camera and overlap at 59:30.

Dweezil pointed out somebody taping the show: "That's very distracting and please don't post that on Youtube"

To me, it seems that if I've paid to see the show I should have a right to tape it for *my own use*. NOT to sell it/give it away/post it etc. or make cash off of it by any other method. That also means not giving a copy to anyone else except the band that played the show in the first place. I'm a musician too and live music is best and I believe in the artist's rights and all the rest of it. If I pay for their show and tape it and listen to it myself I'm not exactly taking anything out of their pocket. In fact, I'm filling their pocket. What more do they want ? I also bought the record which was why I was going to the show in the first place ! If I want to listen to a great show I paid for and attended, I should be able to in a physical way, not just replaying it in my head. The band already has the box office receipts. That's what I think. How many tapers actually do this ? I have no idea - likely not that many given the stuff that's out there. The band/artist has rights but they should remember who put them where they are.
