Sorry about your loss, the new forum has me looking at things differently now too.

I feel like a stranger in a strange land  and yes I lost some of my information like past posts too but I was never too attached to 'em anyway.

Note to self...make attempt to get my Itchy & Scratchy signature back...I love(d) those little bastards :!:

Well, my account was deleted as well. And I must say, even though I'm appreciative that we have a forum to discuss FZ's music, this new forum BLOWS!

1. There are hardly any avatars online that are below 80 x 80 pixels.
2. The look of this new board is too generic.
3. Too many posts have been lost.
4. It's THE worst time to start up a new forum because of the fact that the North American leg of the Zappa Plays Zappa - Tour De Frank tickets are about to go on sale (or already have in some markets) and there's plenty of people who are going to be confused, etc.
5. "The Top 10 Current Posts" function is gone, meaning we're going to have to possibly search the entire forum for current posts.
6. Bring back our old forum, please.

You can make them by yourself, and upload them directly (i.e., no URL reference)

I hope the look will change, when the zappa.com changes style. Then it will probably be a whole new look. Check out the Red Hot Chili Peppers website. They have a Message Board, which appear to be run by the same Forum software like this one, but the style looks completely different, and in accordance with the RHCP style.

That is indeed a bummer. Admin said that some files were corrupted beyond repair. I don't believe it, and it rings a bell about someone talking about master tapes being full of holes therefore necessitating Chad Wackerman re-recording old drum tracks. But by magic, the original drum tracks reappeared in future releases. How can a "hole" become to music?

I don't think there will be confusion. Zappa fans will know how to get tickets and when - with or without a well-functioning forum (I hope). And not-so-fanatics probably never go to the Forum pages.

In the top right corner you can click "View posts since last visit"; that is kinda nice.

Probably wishful thinking.

This is correct. It was important to get the new software on here first. We'll follow up with the new look once the new site is live.

Not sure if you're suggesting that the deletion of some posts and accounts was intentional, but you are mistaken. No conspiracies here. From what I understand the old YaBB forum had deleted some posts in the past, and kept an inaccurate postcount for some members.

We imported the old forum as best we could to a new forum system: phpBB. It looks generic at the moment, because this forum software is widely used, but also fairly customizable. It's also a great deal more stable than the old YaBB forum running here (which did indeed have corrupt files and database files.)

To address both posts, now is probably the best time to be working on bringing many areas of the Zappa.com site up to snuff. The site has been in a state of semi-repair and functionality for some time. Time to change and give this whole site the attention and care it deserves.

As far as tour dates go for the ZPZ tour, a visit to the ZPZ dates page will answer questions about the tour as far as on-sale dates and passwords go.

Indeed. A lot more comprehensive than being limited to only the last 10 posts.

Yes. Sorry - but it won't happen. We were unable to even upgrade the old forum software to the latest version of YaBB, so we ported everything we could here.

While there was some unavoidable data loss, eventually you'll find that this forum will work a lot better (if a little differently) to the old one. You'll also find that we won't be prone to forum crashes or data loss as we were with the old one.

It might take a little getting used to, but keeping a good forum running, along with a well maintained website will ultimately benefit those who use it. :)

Best regards,

It took me 15 minutes or so but I figured out how to resize an image on my comp. Thanks, HJ.

Is it stipulated in your job contract that any hint of criticism should be interpreted as suggesting "conspiracy"? Man, you ZFT people should relax a little. I was merely bringing out my disbelief: If you want to retrieve data, you almost always can (think about police investigators digging up child porn from confiscated computers); it is just a matter of the time you want to put into it. And maybe the time needed was judged not to be worth the while. That is a valid judgement on your behalf. But funny that you should make the "Freudian slip of tounge" and bring up "conspiracies." Kind of revealing :o .

I didn't take it as a criticism - just setting the record straight. :)

Not interested in splitting hairs either. The old forum was broken. I'm afraid forensic data retrieval was out of our reach, so we did the best we could. Any attempt to fix the forum would have resulted in some lost data. The forum alrady had some history of that.

Just take a deep breath HJ - no need to jump down this poor guys throat!

Hey Admin (I posted this elsewhere but it seems that you may be in this thread)

Obviously we all know that old threads have blank pages due to the amout of posts each one holds.

Problem: If you try to catch the thread up by posting lots of messages, it just adds another blank page. Hence, perpetuating the very annoying problem.

As a website administrator, I imagine it would not be hard to delete blank pages from the various links...I would be glad to provide you with most of the messed up threads.

Can and will you please do this? Very Happy

Thank you for all you do to keep this great forum alive!
