Hi there

One of the best things the old forum had going for it was that it offered up a way of accessing the 10 most recent posts. For me this saved plenty of time since it was always the first thing I checked. Will it ever be added to the new forum?

Heres to a successful new start,
Milton Bradley

Check the "View posts since last visit" up by the top right of the forum frame on the forum's front page. It will list the last 10 and however many else since your last visit. An improvement, in my humble estimation.

As many people pointed out before this change, the old forum's lastest 10 posts didn't work properly, it missed out posts and it only gave you the one option of listing 10. As edgewaterinn has pointed out the new forum's "View posts since last visit " option will list all the posts you have missed. It's one of the good things about the new forum.

I thank you both for opening my eyes. Looks like a terrific improvment which I'll be using every time I check things out.

Agreed. The new "View posts since last visit" function is really handy, but if for some reason or other you have to log out before checking any posts (or get timed out as I've noticed happens), next time you log on you don't see the posts you missed last time. It would still be nice to have an option to list, 10, 20, 50, 100 or whatever most recent posts, and one that works properly unlike the old one.

if we could run a search on 1 blank space, it would give you the same results...it won't let you do that now

It says you can use * as a wild card, but it doesn't work on it's own. It also doesn't like searches for trivial words.

Here are some of my suggestions for forum improvement. Don't know how feasible these are, though:

- Bring back '10 Most Recent Posts' or alternatively, add an option to show 'View posts since last visit' as actual posts instead of topics
- Option to search for keywords in topic titles only
- Birthdays / age of user back in profile

One complaint has been that you can't view your own posts as posts by cicking the "View your posts" option on the index page. You can view all your own posts as posts, by clicking the Search link and leaving the keyword field blank and typing you own user name in the username field and selecting to view them as posts.

This software does that much more efficiently than the old one by paging the results, so it only has to fill the first visible page. You can then choose other pages if you need to go further back. The old one found all your posts and crammed them into one window which was ridiculous.

in 1 window you could search 1 page for a word, text string or username & quickly zero-in on the actual one hit you searched, without having to page thru in 50 post batches

  • 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 most recent posts would be very useful (unblock 1 blank space)
  • search: minimum age since last post
  • search: selective multiple forums rather than all available or one forum at a time
  • html tags for fonts, center, etc.
  • on randomonium, let the Image announcement: chatroom! sink down off the top of page 1 ...no need to keep it on top anymore
  • whine whine whine....

That is where putting in a search word helps. I just put in "Slime" for a search word and "polydigm" for the user and got 41 matches. Surely it took some time to load up your 5500 odd posts? I think this new search engine is pretty good when you get used to how best to use it.

This new search engine is very bad ! When you do a simple query, it returns the first page of the thread that has a positive hit, regardless of where the positive hit is... Am I doing something wrong?

There is an option to display results as posts in the bottom left hand corner.

It really can't be done, or at least the PHPBB software doesn't support it. It would take a special modification. Don't know if the admin would want to go through the trouble.

the search option is shite i just checked it out and it never gave me the thread i was looking for even though i typed it in one word perfect. The old board's last 10 posts was a million times better than this new option as firstly, you could actually see the post and reply to it without having to click into the thread and secondly by allowing you to see the actual content of the posts it meant you didn't have to bother looking at a thread that wasn't of any interest to you.
