I recently aquired a bootleg of the Mothers playing live from the BBC in 1968. This was my first time seeing a live tape of the mothers form this time period (Artie Tripp's drum set is amazing)

Now, Roy's bass is a yellow, electric/acoustic bass that looks real bitchin'....but does anyone know the make or model? (From my poor efforts to find a pic online, I have not found an actual pic of him playing this particular bass)

yeah, info is much appreciated.

I was gonna say Hagstrom...it doesn't look like any American bass...and Frank did do ads for Hagstrom...

It's not a Hofner...and I can't imagine Roy playing any other European ones...they're all too crappy..

Maybe it's one of those rare Mexican 'Pope' basses...

Image Image

OK there's no Hagstrom semi basses with pointy cutaways...
I'll keep lookin'

I don't have the bootleg you speak of, nor did any google searches turn up anything of relevance...

Do you have any pics of this bass?

Wish I would have seen this thread earlier. It's definitely a Hofner. Here's an early 70's model (it barely changed, if at all, from the model Roy played):

And this is the picture of Roy playing it on the BBC program(me):
