Last time I saw ZPZ I had the soundcheck pass and Dweezil mentioned this may be happening and quite possibly could be a commemoration of the Filmore east 40th anniversary. He referred to them as Howard and Mark and Ben looked puzzled. He turned to Joe and said (I was pretty close so I heard this), is that Flo and Eddie?!?!

Yuk. Shrill tortured flat singing. Spare me the pain. Now, if Dweezil got Don Preston to sit in.... That would be something.

So excited for this! Hopefully they come to Mn, I've only seen one ZPZ show in my state, I've had to travel for the rest.

As many of you already know, the Flo & Eddie era is my least favourite Zappa era. But if this actually happens, I must admit, it'll be cool to see and hear live...

Man Im glad to hear Im not the only one who hates flo and eddie. Simply hate that stuff. If Dweezil does it hopefully its for one or two shows at most. Ive seen ZPZ every chance I have had so far but I think I would pass on flo and eddie its just easily my least favorite Zappa stuff. Its also so dated and so cheesy. Its just about the only stuff he has done that has not passed the test of time. I saw Billy the Mountain and, as impressive a feat as it was, it was boring and too long and it put my wife to sleep. It takes up like half a set too so you miss so much other music when the perform it.

I could live without ever hearing Billy the Mountain again. It dragged an otherwise incredible show to a screeching halt when I saw it. Lots of people loved it though. It's ironic that one of the main reasons we love FZ is his incredible diversity, yet we get irritated when we have to listen to the styles we personally don't care for. I guess that's just how it goes.

The F&E period is far from my favorite either, but I think it'd be fun to see. As a frequent-flier ZPZ fan I like the idea of mixing it up here and there, even when it's not my favorite stuff.

Oh, the old "Lets Bitch About Flo & Eddie" routine again.
Granted, I only play Do You Like My New Car? every few years, but there is a ton of stuff for F&E to take ZPZ to the next level.
So, lets look at what else may show up:

Mud Shark
Bwana Dik
Latex Solar Beef
Tears Began to Fall
Magdalena
Dog Breath
Wonderful Wino
Call Any Vegetable
Holiday in Berlin (with lyrics!)
Cruising for Burgers
What Will This Morning Bring Me This Evening?
Daddy Daddy Daddy
She Painted Up Her Face
Sharleena
and what I would hope for above all others:
THE SOFA SUITE!

(take that RONNYS!) :x

... but general question: The last time that F&E were rumored to play with ZPZ, didn't they get dropped from the bill shortly after someone blabbed about it on the internet?

I have no idea what exactly went on with ZPZ and F&E. If I remember Mark Volman's posts on this forum about it, he didn't know either.

But it'll be cool... one reason why F&E works not too well on record is that the live entertainment was a big factor, and let's face it, ZPZ can use the stage presentation.
Hey, maybe they'll do Billy the Mountain!

Yes!! You are correct Arkay. But the singing will still SUCK.

its funny how some of you guys say F&E's singing sucks, even though they were/are the most prolific of all of zappa's singers. if you turn on the radio you can hear a half dozen songs featuring their backing vocals...

and thats not even counting their first band, the turtles!

Dates to announced

40th anniversary of "Live at the Fillmore East"

No, they were properly announced and people bought tickets being told that Flo and Eddie would appear (with Ahmet). Then cancellation, and silence. Total silence.

Please elaborate "properly announced". Was it on zappa.com, the forum, the tickets...?

After clearing it with Trendmonger first, the ZFT made an announcement via their official mouthpiece. And so it was done.

(...or not, as it happens)
