I heard Zappa just once, in Columbus Ohio, about 1974. It must have been fall. Possibly 1973. It was a small band, maybe 5 plus Zappa. I was not in tune enough to know the players, as all I had at home were the Flo and Eddie albums.

OK I googled

73/03/07 Columbus OH
Veterans Memorial Auditorium

I only found that one. Does the 5 man/woman plus Zappa sound OK for that date?

Zappa played in Columbus in November 1974 with the One Size Fits All/Helsinki Concert lineup (FZ, George Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth Underwood, Tom Fowler, Chester Thompson). That is probably what you saw.

OK, now I have a lineup in mind. I do remember there being one song that was funny, but what it was...probably not any well known one. Zappa did some pantomime with a mattress on stage and an invisible inflatable doll. Or something. And there was one song with a lot of fancy keyboard. Very faint memories. I also do not remember any songs from a 1971 Jethro Tull concert. I remember back to about 1977 as far as actual songs go.

On hte other hand I remember three songs form a 1970 outdoor festival, mys first.

Just to clarify...

The site I linked lists all Zappa concerts.

The others mentioned above list concerts that have recordings in circulation. (There is no circulating recording of the Columbus 11/19/74 show at this time.)

Thanks all, the
http://www.zappateers.com/fzshows/
was helpful in that there was a set list.

Now, I have it narrowed down to one funny song that was either Stink Foot or Cosmik Debris. I think I may have had Apostrophe by then, so I would have recognized either.

If the band had Ponty, I think I would have remembered that. So it is looking more like Nov 1974.
