Goddamn! Nice set list but I could do without the old Mothers stuff. It really doesn't do anything me when they play it. Glad they added The Grand Wazoo. I was lucky enough to get a taste of it at soundcheck at the Ocean City show last year.

Show was great, 11th for me and I'd say in the top 3. Grand Wazoo & Sinister Footwear were worth the price of admission alone! Outstanding. Society Pages was my favorite tune with vox, hadn't seen them do that yet. Wish they would have picked a "side" from YAWYI & done the whole suite.
Buffalo crowd @ UB kind of sucks, place was probably 3/4 full. Too many idiots who can't get to their seats in time, & old people who can't hold their bladders. Constant traffic up the aisles is slightly annoying.

OSFA as a whole was great to get things rolling. I liked the way the set flowed throughout. No real break, almost a straight 2 hrs, where the Roxy tour fall '13 had an intermission with 2 sets. I'd sort of agree JayP, about the old Mothers tunes. If they're gonna go back that far, do the "serious music" from UM/Weasels/BWS. Peace Corps? is always great though. They did the same run of early Mothers tunes last summer in Syracuse.

Merch table was a bust. No new CDs by FZ or DZ :x (or any audio/video products), just apparel. Will probably hit up Rochester end of July to see how much tighter they are after a few months of steady touring.

Yes, there's an OSFA shirt which seemed to be the only new one - has the couch on the front, and dates on the back. Says "One Size Fits All In It's EntireTee!" $35 for that, and all tees. Other than that, hoodie for $50, sticker packs, guitar picks, tote bags, etc. Nothing I needed, though that Bat Chain Puller shirt was tempting again.

Yeah I know, ridiculous  . Was the same deal with Roxy shirts for fall '13. Fuck that. I waited a few months and got one new & official from Amazon(Old Glory) for $20 & shipping. Didn't have the tour dates on the back, but who cares.

Actually $35 for any shirt bought anywhere for any event on site is about right...

Yeah, maybe for bullshit-corporate stadium/arena rock acts. For the bands who get in the van & play small clubs, shirt prices are between $15 & $25 :) . Anything more than that is obscene.

Yes but if I go to any sporting event $30-$40
any amusement park $30-$40
Any fair or festival $30-$40
Hearst castle $30-$40
Musium $30-$40
Shop in any beach city $30-$40

Its the going rate, small bands have to do it different thir fan base has no money, everything else is for people who have jobs and understand you either got the money or you don't go or don't buy until you make something out of yourself, it is what it is...the price of admission... :smoke:

In most cases, charging $35 for a concert shirt, especially for a band that needs all the $$$ they can get, since their draw is only about 1/3 of what it was 9 years ago when they first started, is fine by me...

Was at the show and was better than expected, as some of you know I am not thrilled with this lineup and won't go into it other than to say that how do you play the music from Roxy and One Size Fits All with NO percussionist?
Now onto the show itself, the venue was one of the better places I have been in and not a bad seat in the house, well designed and layed out. The band itself was better than before and suspect this to be more informed on the music itself and familiarity with it. No complaints on the song selection or the delivery....but I do have issues with a keyboard player inserting the percussion electronically on some songs and no and I mean no bass playing on 2 songs as he was playing keyboards?
Audience was in fine form and not intrusive which is always a bonus but I do wish they would stop calling out songs to be played that have been done before ad nauseum, DZ did a fine job in the selection.
Also I do wish to thank the individual/John who gave me his spare ticket, didn't know this gentleman and was gracious enough to give me it au gratis.
All in all was a very good show and I would do it all over again.
One more thing, was reading the handout of the band and it lists the musicians...Dweezil Zappa lead guitar/vocals,Scheila Gonzalas Sax/flute/kbs/vocals,Kurt Morgan bass/vocals(but no kbs which he did frequently),Chris Norton kbs/vocals,Joe Travers drums and vocals...yes thee Joe Travers dressed up like someone else(forget his name) and Ben Thomas Lead vocals/trumpet/trombone...interesting.

ps: I still don't see why Ben is there, rather annoying really and have never understood why.
pps: enjoy the rest of the tour people

Could someone take a pic of said t shirt?

Good to know they play The Grand Wazoo title track now. Wonder what's it going to sound like with their more stripped down instrumentation. Speaking of which, I still hope that maybe in the future ZPZ will annex some extra brass players to the band and then do a special set with the Waka/Wazoo albums as well as some stuff from the Wazoo live album and Imaginary Diseases. In other words, pay homage to the entire Frank's 1972 big band period. Even if it would be a one-time event. But something like that would be great for US (and maybe European) jazz festivals.
