Any pictures exist or Napoleon with the 1984 band? Pre-tour promo shots, concert-shots, etc?

That's a very good question. You would think so but I don't recall ever seeing any. By the same token it would be interesting to see/hear a release. How many shows did he do before he got his plane ticket home?

About 3 weeks of shows I think. There's a good SBD show with him and Bruce Fowler, George Duke, Denny Walley, Aynsley Dunbar and Johnny Guitar Watson as guests.

Yeah, some of the earlier shows are quite nice, and it's good to hear the Thing-Fish material with him on it. The later shows with him are rougher though and it's not hard to see why he was given the boot. Just seems crazy to me that more pictures exist of lineups decades earlier, than a mid-eighties group....

The shows aren't "essential" (The one with all the guests is great, but the 1984 band's better stuff was after awhile on the road, like usual) but an official release might be the only thing to pack a set of liner notes with some photo gems.

According to Napi: "I could only do the short American leg. I couldn’t do Europe and the rest of the tour. When we got back together for the Thing-Fish album and some things for Them Or Us, Frank said 'Why don’t you come and do the tour with us?' And I said, 'Well I can’t do the whole thing, but I’ll do what I can.'"

According to Frank: "‎Chemical alteration is not something that mixes well with precision performance"

I'm bettin' that publicity shot has been around for 30 years - ya think?
You've been around for about 43 years, cleon, but I'm not sure I've ever seen your publicity shot.

Napi sang Evil Prince, while he was on tour. The band also had true 5-part harmony doowop vocals for some other material.

No, that's...whatever the fake piano was that Alan Zavod used on the 1984 tour (see also his "Let's Move To Cleveland" solos).

Yamaha Electric Grand I'm fairly certain was used for all of the piano sounds. A staple keyboard since Tommy Mars joined. Never used after '84.

Yes, Tommy Mars had one although a fair amount of the late 70's "piano" is Peter Wolf and the McCoy Tyner ish licks he brought to City Of Tiny Lights and other songs. And yes, it was ditched in favor of whatever the even more fake sounding piano was that Robert Martin had in 1988.

Thanks, Great concert, i know it's not popular among people but i LOVE the 84 tour, it has one thing that's missing from the 88 tour and that's some great vocals, whenever i hear the 88 tour songs with vocals they sound weak in comparison to what was happening in 84..

I like the '84 tour a lot too. The stuff on YCDTOSA is really enjoyable.
