....released The Rage and The Fury or Dance me this.

and never realized a stage performance of Thing-Fish (which would probably clear a lot up)

Lived on. Because if he beat cancer, he definitely would have put another rock band together. I think the man would have gotten the respect he deserves from the mainstream. I think all the band's that have come out in the last decade and a half or so, that were influenced by Zappa, would have created a resurgence of interest in FZ's music. His voice would have been nice through this period in American history as well. 8)

...got a very large sum of money dumped in his lap by a real "Patron of the Arts" and told the music industry to go fuck themselves, he was going to do what he wanted without having to make proposals to industry assholes because he didn't need those pricks.

In the Real FZ Book, he said he never got the tape. That was '88/89 when he wrote this.

Either further along in the FZ book , or in the Neg Dialects book , he states that some guy from the midwest sent him a copy.

Getting my books out right now to see if I can find that passage. 8)

i think he's talking about playing joe's garage live on stage. a lot of the songs were throwaways and not worth playing live...better to keep the good ones.

I like all the songs on Joe's Garage.
I think all of the ones that are 'guitar solofests' could probably be treated as dance scenes. Like, ballet. It would work nicely, I think.

got his Prostate checked annually when he was in his 40's.

Don't put it off, guys. The new treatments they have today would have probably saved Frank's life.

it was a shame he never agreed to produce 'infidels' for bob dylan.

...played many videogames.

In many ways, it's the one place where his legacy lives on the strongest, melodically. Many of his melodies wouldn't be out of place in a videogame.

(If Zappa was a new composer on the scene, that's where he'd get a job, not in film.)

I can hear it now, "Be... In My Videogame".
or, the new DVD, "Videogame From Hell"

you talking about him playing it live on a tour or as a one-off thing? your idea seems really cool. i just couldn't suffer through 9 minutes of Sy Borg. it seems to me that the only reason that track exists is to push the storyline along. the keyboard solo is lame as hell, too, why didn't he put another xenochronous solo on there? i haven't looked at the chords, but it sounds to me like he coulda put an inca roads solo over it.

don't get me wrong, joe's is easily one of my favorite zappa cds. i just think a full-blown live rendition would be a bit redundant.

btw--feral, what's the story on Moses und Aron?
