About two hours ago I stepped off the plane at O'Hare. It's been one hell of a weekend, but all is taken care of. Neil finally made it to Sweet Home Chicago and as one might have expected he made the trip in a suitcase. Good to be home. :P

Thank you Mental and Aspy. I know you and a lot of others were thinking of us over the weekend and that's why things went as well as they did. I know that Neil would have laughed and said that all the pains we took were not necessary. But by golly that nice English/Danish boy got a nice Roman Catholic funeral. Ha ha ha ha. The Funeral Home assumed he was French and Catholic as well. I don't know how they figured that, with his name. Oh well, a little holy water sprinkling and a few Hail Mary's never hurt anyone. He got a respectful memorial service and people who loved him to be there. But he would have laughed. :D

Well, what is it they say, Dr? Funerals are for the living. The dead don't need them. I am sure he is where the music is in the wide open spaces of the afterworld. And yet.....It's good to think of him coming home to Chicago where the blues found a lot of their expression and where he would have loved to be. Good to think that the people that tried to keep us apart did not win entirely and that he is not now interred in a totally French speaking part of Montreal. If any Quebecois that might be here want to take offence, go ahead, I mean no harm, that would have been something he would not have liked, thats all. I would want something similar done for me when my time comes.

Wow, after I said my piece about him, I didn't really read the thread anymore. Well, I read the whole thread today, and I found myself choked up thinking about what an incredible woman Sabby is, and how great it is that everyone has supported each other through this tough time. It makes me think how precious all our lives are and how we shouldn't waste our time hating each other. We all have way too much in common to not appreciate just being able to talk to someone you can relate to (and god knows it's hard for some of us to relate to the rest of the masses). I see alot of myself in Neil, and would only hope that someone cared that much about me to go to that length, if I had no one else. Much love great people of the Zappa Forum!
Who says Zappa has no Heart? He's just got none to give away, but he's got plenty of soul! 8)

I agree Greasy. Sabs is such a strong wonderful WO-man and Im mighty proud of her and what she's done for Neil, despite the pain she's been feeling. It's a hard enough time to lose a loved one and organise a funeral when you're in the same country, let alone do it for a loved one who lives somewhere else.
I love this little community we have here and I don't care who sneers at that. There are some amazing people on this board (of course there are some nobs as well, but you cannae have everything!) and I'm glad I had the opportunity to know one of the nicest people, Neil.

Now, you will be making me a saint next thing. Fuck that! I'm just a woman who loves music and Zappa and am as full of contradictions as the next person. I'm glad to be home. I'm glad to have found a bunch of freaks who can speak the same language with me and take a little time to care about each other. And put up with my flakiness. And if you can't put up with it, then line up for chastisement, he he. Neil wouldn't want us to be all soppy and sentimental about him. He had a good life and lots of interesting adventures. Just a little too short, thats all. He'll be waiting for us in blues heaven you can just bet. Smoking a joint and listening to the best music in the universe. :)

I can see it now. "Ste. SabrinaIII, the patron saint of blues-enthusiasts of Canadian extraction." Has a nice ring to it, don't you think??

I'm not trying to put you on a pedestal, because I feel the same way. I don't like people making a fuss when I'm nice, just enjoy. We are all imperfect, but sometimes when we make the effort we show our humanity. Sure, Neil wouldn't say make a fuss over me, but deep down he wouldn't have hated people caring.

Wow! I have not logged in for probably about a year...and clearly am months behind this news....but that is sad!

May he be pleasantly surprised to find himself in a better place....

He was not meek, so hopefully he will inherit something. :D
