Outside of "Smoke on the Water" what other songs mention Zappa?

i think there was a song by the moody blue (? may have been from an off-shoot band featuring justin hayward.) off an album released in the late 70's--had to do with the 60's and named certain groups, notably the mothers of invention. john mayall, i believe, had a tune with the address of frank's house in laurel canyon as the title. whatever that was. those are the only ones i can think of--sorry i can't recall the names.

"I saw Frank Zappa eat a lonely hotdog."

from "Mexican Guy" off The Stooges' The Weirdness album from this year.

"Ah, Tipper come on, ain't you been getting it on?
Ask Ozzie, Zappa or me.
We'll show you what it's like to be free."

from Censorshit off The Ramones' Mondo Bizzaro

Frank - Wildman Fischer (off Pronounced Normal. "Frank's got money in the bank, Frank's got women he can spank...")

Also worth mentioning that Chicago has a song called "A Hit by Varese" on their fifth album. Great tune too. You sure won't see Varese mentioned much in pop songs.

George Harrison: Blood from a Clone

They say they like it, but, now in the market it
May not go well as it's too laid back.
You need some oomph-papa,
nothing like Frank Zappa
And not New Wave they don't play that crap

here in czech republic there's a famous singer named aneta langerova, and she has a song which mentions frank.
it's called Hřišná Tïla, Křidla Motýlí

Vyhni se botám, který vůní šlapou
Drtí řádky psané
Zappou-hou jen skývu málem zlatou
Prodají tě do výkladních skříní
Výstavních síní

Winds Of Change from the album of the same name by Eric Burdon & the Animals has a line that goes "Frank Zappa zapped".

There is a similar thread to this titled Musical Dedications To FZ.

Here's the link> http://www.zappa.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.p ... dy+patches

Not Zappa by name, but in Prince Paul's 'hip-hopra' "A Prince Among Thieves", Kool Keith askes, "What's the password?", and Tru replies, "Enema Bandit!"

"Ian Underwood Whips It Out (Live on stage in Copenhagen)" from the album Uncle Meat.

Ian Underwood says: One month ago I heard The Mothers of Invention at the theater. I heard them on two occasions, and on the second occasion I went up to Jim Black and I said, "I like your music, and I'd like to come down and play with you." Two days later I came up to the recording session, and Frank Zappa was sitting in the control room. I walked up and said, "How'd you do, my name is Ian Underwood, and I like your music, and I'd like to play with your group." Frank Zappa says, "What can you do that's fantastic?" I said, "I can play alto saxophone and piano." He said, "All right, whip it out."

Not really a song, but Robin Williams mentions him on an album. Don't remember the name of the album or the track, but he was imitating Mr. Rogers.

Groups that mention zappa:

I wrote earlier:

Motörhead : After their final song they play a Zappa song !

In the past 'Trouble every day' this year 'Dirty love'

You can even hear it on their last Live album : Better Motorhead Than Dead: Live At Hammersmith , after the final song Overkill !!!

They do it for years . Thxs to Lemmy and his Road Crew

John Mayall album BLUES FROM LAUREL CANYON and song titled "2401" refers to a "log cabin" where Zappa presided over the place with a variety of performers appearing. To view the link do a "laurelcanyonthebook" with the three w's in front and the dot com afterward.

The address was NOT Zappa's house as referred to in an earlier posting.

On the Steve Hillage song 'Light In The Sky' (from Motivation Radio), you can hear Professor Gilli Smyth (vocalist from Gong) say;
"It's a blimp, Frank....I think it's a blimp"

I very much doubt that she's referring to anyone else but our hero.....Mr Zappa

also....the Cap'n's ' Blimp' itself....but Frank did produce that anyway

Off THAT avenue, there's a song by Andy Partidge called "The Rotary", in which he says, "This is definately the thing that's gonna make Capt. Beefheart and his Magic Band look fat."

Actually, I could be wrong about it being Gilli on the Hillage album
It could be Hillage's gf Ms Giraudy (she wrote some of the tracks)
There's no info on my cd, but it sure sounds like Gilli a la "I Am Your Pussy"
