This song was played at almost every Zappa concert during the fall 1978 - summer 1982 tour, and got a instrumental section written into it for the 1980- tour. So which version do you like the best?

I choose the '80s version because:

* The instrumental part is epical orgasmical, I LOVE IT!
* Better guitar solos
* I prefer the vocal combo Bobby + Ray on this song, their voices are more powerful and goes better with the rest of the number

I like the 80's version better too, particularly the Tinseltown version because of the great collage in the middle. That solo just comes from nowhere.

Ray sang EM in 1981-1982

Yeah, I know. I was just sayin' that out of the 70's versions, I like the way Ike sings it more than Denny. A teeny bit OT.

The 1970-1971 and 1978 versions are the best.

There's a robot version of EM from the Sunrise Theater in Ft. Lauderdale in 1980 that is truly incredible. No guitar solo, just amazing sonic experiments.

Bobby Martin sang it as well.

I don't vote in obviously rigged polls.

If we're narrowing it down to just the two arrangements - 1980s obviously wins. But the 1979 Zurich version runs it close - where they alter the vamp to 15/16, the kind of small change that could cause a major train wreck. Frank and Vinnie take it in their stride, but I feel sorry for the bass and rhythm guitar every time I hear it: I picture Arthur really gritting his teeth and saying to himself: "I must keep this thing in tune and in time: if I don't, no-one else will!"
