A wide angle lens has been used in these pictures and objects tend to look larger out towards the edge. Zappa's face is nearly in the centre and the other faces are out towards the edge. Have a look at the guitar, especially in the second pic where it looks surreal, and Richard Emmet's right elbow.

According to David Ocker, the pic is real, though they are pretending to play.

Who is David Ocker?

Sheik Yerbouti (1979) clarinets
You Are What You Is (1981) clarinet & bass clarinet
London Symphony Orchestra Vol. I (1983) clarinet
The Perfect Stranger (1984) computer programmer
Thing-Fish (1984) Synclavier programmer
Francesco Zappa (1984) Synclavier document encryption & liner notes
QuAUDIOPHILIAc (2004) clarinet

Yeah the clarinet playing by David Ocker on Mo 'n Herbs Vacation especially has to be some of the best instrumental work there is far as I'm concerned. (From a clarinet player themselves of course!)

I don't know what you've stirred up Cleon but when I went to Richard Emmett's web site the other day the Zappa Stuff page worked fine and now it doesn't.

At the top of the page there are links to various sections of the web site. Click the "Zappa Stuff" link. It's broken, but it worked fine on Sunday. The photo looks strange because it was taken with a wide angle lens which is not a good idea when you're photographing people.

lmao oh yeah that's real all right. Little known fact about Frank was that he was only about four foot tall. That's hilarious. Did you do that? If this is a joke you're a genius.

Whether you like it or not this picture is real. It was taken with a wide angle lens and that is why it is distorted. Have a look at all the photos on the following page from around the same time.
Richard Emmett worked with Zappa for 5 years, why would he need to fake photographs?

It just looks weird. I didn't know that it had been established that the pic was real. I didn't want to wade through like 847 posts to find out. But if it's been verified, I take it back. It just looks awful weird, and he really looks sort of superimposed.

38 to be exact, until you joined in. Don't worry about it. Have you looked at the other pics on Emmett's web site?

the last pic in "zappa stuff" shows the foursome again, they all look in perspective, all the same size. so, maybe it was a wide angle lense, but it does look funny.
