In the 70's he mentioned liking Queen and Gentle Giant. In later years he occasionally mentioned liking some new wave or alt-rock songs here and there. He also mentioned liking the guitar playing of Jeff Beck and Allan Holdsworth.

I can't remember, but I think he liked ZZTop, or the production of.

I recall 80s interviews where he mentioned liking songs by Gerry & the Holograms, The Slits and the Tom Tom Club. He also liked a few songs on the Velvet Underground's 1st album, and had a lot of nice things to say about Autosalvage in the 60s.
