Did I ever tell you my sister knows "some stupid with a flare gun"? He's residing in The Netherlands, with a Swedish alcoholic ex-groupie.
I'll squeeze more details out of her when she visits us tomorrow.

Thanks for the post, Hodgy! Amazing photos!

One of These Days by Pink Floyd was playing during the video! I love that song!

Very interesting, as I've never read anywhere about anyone being arrested.

Looks like the link 'solves' the mystery of what guitar FZ was using during that show. I'll wait until Cleon arrives at the crime scene and see what he thinks and sez.

Did your sister ever fill you in on this?

Yes, and one of the things she said (like when I asked her what exactly the "flare gun" was, which apparently is uncertain) is that she doesn't really hope to meet up with them in the near future. Apparently his girl is creepy.
That was months ago, and if sis comes back around St Nicholas, I hope she's in a better mood to gossip about it.

Dates are never significant. Unless you're married to a female man and forget your anniversary.

Seriously I used to collect birthdays and deathdays and days of historical importance. It's the best way to discover that astrology is a bunch of hogwash.

hat incident was very strange to me. First of all the tour schedule was printed on a box of matches. Second, on the day before the fire, in the middle of my solo on ‘King Kong’, someone ran out on the stage and issued a fire warning. On the next night, in the middle of my solo on ‘King Kong’, some one threw a firecracker up to the ceiling, which was covered with dry palm leaves, and started the fire. While that was happening Zappa¹s sewer backed up in his LA home and the entire basement studio was flooded with piss and shit.

Hilarious, but not nearly as hilarious as

Quote:
We were sitting there watching Frank Zappa play and suddenly someone had one of those flare guns and decided to let it off. It set the roof on fire. Frank turned around and said, "Now everybody calm down." He then threw down his guitar and jumped out the window. It was quite funny. He wanted to be the first one out. We then had about 15 minutes before the place was gutted, which was frightening. If memory serves when Frank told the story he was more like a traffic cop and made sure all the kids got out first. Ritchie never took drugs, but did tend to drink so maybe his recollection of Zappa leaping out a window is blurred, so the question is: what really happened? Did Zappa throw down his guitar (SG?) and leap out the window while Blackmore sat calmly and observed as the place burned down or is this like the Kurosawa film Rashamon, where everyone remembers things somewhat differently?

....except that we do have a bootleg of that concert where, yes, Zappa is calmly telling everyone not to panic and to leave in an orderly fashion. Man, Zappa must have been a real dick to get everyone hating him so much......

My sister finally got round to posting what she knows about it. Since she has a law degree she is very careful about not saying anything that might get them in trouble so the story isn't as spicy as she made it seem back then, but she does get to clear a little fog. Check the message board at Packardgoose.com!
