oh yeah, i forgot to mention cruisin (except for stuff up the cracks, that one has the original bass and drums)
but i do like the intro to cheap thrills, i love singing along with the vocal harmony

i recently listened to a copy of the vinyl mix(cruisin), and its great. just spiff it up a bit and add new packaging, and i'll buy it!

Is that the only option for digital, original mix?

Barring ripped vinyl copies on bootleg media it is. But the mono mix is fantastic.

for WOIIFTM it is as close as you can get (besides the vinyl) but for Crusin, there is no digital version of the original vinyl mix.

fingers crossed for a 2009 ZFT release of this!

(methinks this is gonna be a year of no new releases) :(

That's not even true! I have the original (not sure what mix, but no drum and bass overdubs) on Ryko CD. I feel some songs are better in their original form, while some are improved in 84.

You know you are right, I do have that, but I was so disappointed when I heard the sound quality of that release that I didn't listen to it often.
The sound quality of the mono mix on Lumpy Money was so great the other one completely slipped my mind.

Thanks for the correction.

How do you identify that version? Was that the one that came out after they as only WOIIFTM, not combined with LG?

Yes. There are two versions, both have the original stereo mix, standard edition and Gold disc audiophile edition.

The combined version has re-recorded drums and bass.

It's kind of funny, ,for me it was the opposite! I was desperate to find the overdubbed version, but in my time stream, it was nowhere to be found! Once upon a time, I wondered into a small little indie store and found the twofer in the used section. The guy behind the counter told me I couldn't give it a listen, I was bummed as I didn't know if it was the version I already had, or the 84, so I said "I just need to find out if this is the overdubbed 84 version." and he said, "oh ya, totally! that's the one!" I was happy to find out when I got it home he was correct!

I like the overdubbed version. It doesn't just have bass and drum overdubs, it's also remixed. The original has a kind of homogenous feel about it, whereas in the 1986 version Zappa worked out a mix that produced a much better separation of the instrumentation. It just sounds richer to me.

I have all three versions on CD, the mono, the stereo, the overdub and I know which one I prefer, so I don't need to be told or booed or whatever.

I like all the versions. It was a real treat to get the 84 mix. I like the bass and drum overdubs on Reuben- it's great to have two versions. Why's folks always whine about that? Both versions are great. It'd be nice to have the original mix on CD, but I can think of a lot of other things I'd like to see released first...

I have the overdubbed Ruben and LOVE it. However I've never even HEARD the original. I can certainly believe the people who say this release was "ruined" by the overdubs. Myself I can't wait for the Ruben making of so I can hear the original mix. It will be awesome! But I doubt I'll wind up hating the remix because of it.
