Does anyone know of a connection between Zakir Hussain and Frank Zappa? I'm just listening to an album of world music and the notes on a track on which Zakir Hussain is playing, claim that he played with Frank Zappa. Zakir Hussain has played with John McLaughlin and L Shankar, but I can't find any connection with Frank Zappa on the internet.

My guess would be that they just jammed some while Zappa was producing Touch Me There.

Another guess would be, since L. Shankar had been an infrequent guest at the UMRK in the early 90s (see EIHN /UMRK Salad Party etc), that he brought Zakir H. along, at one time or another . . . .

I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the soirees he held towards the end when he was experimenting with world music. Or the source is just wrong.

I think the Salad Party thing is more likely.

Zakir used to play with L. Shankar, if I am not mistaken, in John McLaughlin's Shakti (as Poly said)...

Oh, by the way, 'world music' is a horrible no-meaning label...

I'm not particularly attached to that term but it is in common use. What should I say?
