I think Punk is just an excuse to sound like shit but if I have to pick an album I like...The Clash Give Em Enough Rope but I also like The Fall songs "Totally Wired" "Pole Art Threat" and "Mr. (f) armacist"

No-one's mentioned Crass? Shame!

Penis Envy and the studio disc of Christ The Album surely are the greatest punk albums ever. Obviously their political vision can't be faulted: if you doubt it, get the vinyl of Christ The Album, read the thick booklet and follow up on the literary/news archive references. But it's not just ideology - musically there's plenty to chew on, too: listen again to "What The Fuck" and "Health Service" (the former) and "Sentiment" and "Reality Whitewash" (the latter).

I didn't really 'get' that anarcho crusty thing 25 years ago and I doubt my thoughts have changed too much.
The Crass stuff I did listen to was pretty basic musically-not much to appeal to my ears. The DIY ethic appealed though. It was an exciting time, not necessarily musically, but in terms of self-producing stuff and getting it out there. Back then I hadn't heard of Zappa, and Barfko etc!

I think the 'Bollocks' album still sounds great.

I like the first Banshees album, and a lot of Damned stuff. The first few Uk Subs albums still get listened to.
Things got interesting with Killing Joke, but whether you'd call that punk I don't know.
I think all of those bands got better with time, when the weight of being 'punk' was cast aside. Frank said it succinctly when he made the comments about about uniforms (yes, I know he wasn't talking about 'punk', but the argument still stands).

If you look at the very first post on this thread, Crass is the first nominee!
