Actually, I don't know most of the 'songs' on that list. But it is kind of nonsense to do all this ranking anyway.

Pearls such as this, could not be considered:
Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo - Forrodei (for Chick Corea)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV3krE_UutU
(genuine composition to be arranged and played in a synclavier)

How trustworthy might be a list with Beastie Boys among the best instrumental ever?

I really liked their instrumental album, I had the cassett back in the 90's and listened to it often, have not heard it for well over 12 years may have to pick that one up.

I. Ron Butterfly: In The Garden Of Eden
Where I first heard it

Hey, no joke. It's not really rock but some perfect pop. There's some real talent behind the Carpenters.

Hmm...not one person has mentioned All Along The Watchtower - Hendrix
It's always been my idea of a perfect rock song...has it gone out of fashion?

I was wondering just yesterday whether Jimi played that bassline upsidedown on fuck-knuckles bass..
or did he have a lefty bass hanging around the studio?

That would make that bassline even more astonishing
