I dont wanna start a war or anything, just wondering if FZ would have shied away from taking on islam / islamic extremists in the same way he took on softer religious targets.
Salman Rushdie comes to mind...

Hey I get to post before the thread gets hijacked!! I am humbled.

It's a good question. I don't ever remember Frank making any comments about non-Christian religions (except maybe Jewish Princess). There was terrorism back in his day..... My guess is that he would have reacted now just as he did then, which meant he was tolerant of different religions as long as they stayed out of people's business. It's hard to imagine him supporting or even being quiet about Islamic extremism.

I don't think he would have shied away at all. He would have just focused on the absurdities as usual, and I would have at least somewhat enjoyed living through the conflicts of the last few decades.

I think you may be right, but salman rushdie had to go into hiding for about 20 years cos of the fatwa.
That potentially could have denied us a lot of FZ albums

listen to "dumb all over", the song comments all religions.
"the other whatever" can be islam or anything else.
"revenge the crusade": the christians did the crusades, the muslims revenged their crusades. So this line directly refers to islam.
"Moses, Aaron 'n Abraham . . ." (the meek shall inherit nothing) are ancestors of jewish, christian and muslim religion, at least Moses and Abraham.

Quite easy to miss still. Nothing in the vein of mohamed thinks you're a jerk etc.
Also, I have no idea if ahmet is an islamic name? Any info??

I think FZ did comment everything from his point of view and that was the view of a white US-american from catholic european extraction. So he was very familiar with the christian weltanschauung but probably didn't know much about islam and other religions. And islam wasn't as far hot as topic of discussion as it is nowadays. Don't think that he would have been afraid of any fatwa or anything like that, he had balls.
Indeed Ahmed is a name from countries of the islamic world like arabia or turkey. Always wondered why he choose it as a name for his son.

I think Rushdie had to go into hiding for apostasy because he was born a Muslim and later renounced and ridiculed his own religion. That wouldn't have applied to FZ. But on the other hand, if FZ had ridiculed their prophet, then he may have been targeted as that Dutch cartoonist was some time ago.
