I've read several references to the fact that the song "Andy" may be about Todd Rundgren, but I've never found anything to substantiate this claim, other than the fact that the song was once entitled "Something/Anything?" This seems rather odd to me, as, well, the song specificially mentions a real person who is not Todd Rundgren, as far as I know (and, for that matter, is DEFINITELY not Nigey Lennon, who is full of shit). Anyone have anything on this?

I've never heard of this either, but I think I read in a TR interview that he wasn't acquainted with FZ but admired his music.

I've been re-discovering some of my Todd lps lately, the guy sure recorded some great stuff. :)

Yeah, how can Todd "make a living off an elpee's worth of tunes" if half of them are out of print or hard to find? ;D ???

I saw Todd this summer in a double gig with Joe Jackson. TR is quite unknown here in Germany, could that be? Both were performing solo and later together, but just three songs. Since this cooperation was great it shoulda been more!

Anyway, to whom is the FZ aside on TTR dedicated? On Blue Light where it says "The squid decor! then FZ says "excuse me, Todd!",. then on with "The big ol' giant underwater door!" Any guess?

I liked the first Utopia album the best. Another live is good too. Ra is the best sounding album from a recording standpoint and truly a classic.

The sound quality ain't so great on cd, though.. (at least on my version, think it's on Rhino Records). Almost sounds like a needle drop from vinyl.

According to that amazing discography by Román García Albertos, there is a connection between FZ and Todd Rundgren, which is the album called Flint which has something to do with Don Brewer from Grand Funk Railroad. Now they may not have crossed paths, but who knows?

Info about Flint

Have you heard that Todd is now going to be the front man for The New Cars. Yes, a Cars reunion (well, sort of) featuring original Cars lead guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawkes. Rounding out the group are Utopia bassist/singer Kasim Sulton and Tubes drummer Prairie Prince. They're going to be on Jay Leno March 14 and have a press conference to announce their world tour the same day. This may sound kind of cheesy to some people to have a Cars reunion without Ric Ocasek (who didn't want to do it but apparently gave his blessing) and/or Ben Orr who died in 2000, but to me this is a great pop supergroup. I expect them to play mostly Cars stuff but also some Todd/Utopia material. The Cars, Todd/Utopia and the Tubes are all favorites of mine. There's already a live album recorded (from some showcase shows in January) with a few new studio songs added. The new song I've heard "But Not Tonight" sounds like it could have been on the first Cars album. I'm definitely going to go see them. They're playing in Northern California May 27.

I wonder if anyone asked Vince Welnick if he wanted to get involved. For me at least, that would really be the icing on the cake. Has anyone heard 'Liars?' It's one of Todd's recent ones - word is better than anything he's done for a long time.
