'Godfather of Ecstasy' Sasha Shulgin Dies After 4,000 Trips Aged 88

According to Psychedelic Frontier, Shulgin once estimated he had tripped on psychedelic drugs 4,000 times during his life –roughly once a week for more than 50 years.

-Was quoted as saying "The only lasting effects of these substances on me has been chronic bad breath"

I loved him in The Young Ones, and after reading several tributes, I'm going to have to watch Black Adder, too.

He was great in other things, too. Highly recommended is "Briefest Encounter", where a potential one-night stand doesn't quite go according to plan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_91XLTo3_M
He really showed he could act here.

And I always loved "The New Statesman", too.

About the best satire on the sons of Thatch around.

I could never quite get into "Bottom" (Ooer! Sounds a bit rude!), but found "Filthy, Rich and Catflap" to be a worthy successor to "The Young Ones".

Let's not forget "Bad News" - miles better than Spinal Tap IMO...

His last part will probably be a Dutch film named De Ontsnapping - Rik only wrapped up shooting his part this week. Doesn't sound like the kind of flick you'd want for your epitaph, but let's wait and see.

A postscript to Rik Mayall. My own immediate family didn't find this funny, but WTF - I think it's "graet"!
Apparently, an anonymous female fan wrote him a letter, describing how her father, an even greater Rik fan, was soon to celebrate his 60th birthday. She enclosed an empty birthday card, which she asked Rik to sign. A sealed envelope then arrived from Rik which the birthday boy then opened on the big day, containing the following best wishes...

A pity he's gone...

Screen, stage legend Ruby Dee dies at 91 http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/12/showbiz/obit-ruby-dee/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

If you never saw this wonderful actress's work, may I recommend you take a look at the television play "GONE ARE THE DAYS" (aka "Purlie Victorious") free at http://youtu.be/X9wHa6clY1w

This program also stars a very young newcomer named Alan Alda (M*A*S*H) and Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg from "Dukes of Hazard")
