I don't disrespect his solos. they all sounded the same like he only played in one mode. He was fast and played beautifully. So what? There was nothing so mystifying about it. Although he could play very transcendentally he chose more often to be a comedian. that's cool. Try another mode. It's just music, Sound generated by mind metal wood and flesh. It's nothing to get high and holy about. frank zappa is now going to play a solo. Big freakin hairy deal. he was good but his playing was somewhat limited too. There i've joined the ranks of critical listeners.

I don't mind you having your opinion, but I gotta say I don't "get" what you are talking about. Its transcendental but thats not enough for you?
You hear particular modes too often? Personally, I don't think FZ's solo concepts can be reduced as you have done. I've heard people try to prove it before, but never completely.
I don't understand your "comedian" statement. Perhaps you have your own answer to DHBIM?
Everyone is limited.
No one else plays like FZ.

Two words: Air Sculptues. I have gotten quite far emulating his style, and air sculptures is where I started. The man knew how to craft a solo. He didn't need the fancy shit, he just wrote the amazing shit.

That was such a singularly excellent one, muziko! Yes, you really do weave the most illustrative, uniquely unparalleled, incisively critical analyses of Zappa's meager abilities and contrast them with those of a truly creative artistic giant.
Now, if only I had a somewhat miniaturized "Battie Award" for you this would be exactly where I'd place it.

Bat, Santana can play circles around Frank, and you know it!

First off thank you for allowing me to have an opinion. It can be transcendental but i find his playing extremely repetitious.Yes he could take it over the top and he was very good. i heard ike Willis play recently with his group Pojama people. ike plays a pretty mean solo as well. i was very impressed. I admit though i find it not very sophisticated in a harmonic sense. Alot of repetition. it's pretty at times and truly inspiring but there are other guitarists on the whole i like alot better.

To say no one plays like zappa well how do you accpunt for people like vai, ike, dweezil. they play just like him. Yes i find him and santana's basic thematic motifs to be very similar minor blues scales or something to that effect.

It sounds nice but it's not the ultimate listening experience for me. Either is brad paisley i wasn't comparing them my point with you is this. Live and let live. When you put down a musician who is popular it doesn't help your cause it hurts it. You have the freedom to do it but is it smart? Sure anyone can be critical of a pop artist but they have always been there and they fullfill a function in society. maybe music for old people that's valid.

As for the comedian statement I meant he chose to be a satirist and part time guitarist hence the shut up and play your guitar themes. I honestly tire of his sound but i do believe he brought some excellent musical compositions into the world. Stuff like holiday in berlin, peaches en regalia that is worth all of his other satirical work combined to me. he enjoyed doing it and people dug it that's cool.

Whether he was original or he borrowed some themes now and again doesn't matter to me. i think he was 99% original and plagerised on occasion out of respect for music and not to be a thief.

There is some influence in their playing but they definitely do not play just like Frank. It's highly obvious to me.

Frank invented a whole new technique of guitar playing. Yes, his solos are just solos but they are extremely unique and innovative, from the tone to the execution.

BTW, what the fuck is the ultimate listening experience for muziko? I just gotta know.

This is bending my mind. Something which is a rant against Paisley turns out to be a rant against Zappa? Don't apologise to him, he's obviously got something very nasty and pervasive stuck up his arse and fancies himself as some kind of giant killer. And the pathetic excuses he makes for not even doing it properly?

it's almost like the guy really is a zappa fan but had to [or decided to] write a condensed narrative of everything bad about fz in 2k words or less...so he 1st writes a 2,000 word positive piece, then spins it around into ex-fz fan insider rant, kinda like ya hozna

dumb it down for paisley, add water....

Oh, piss on Paisley!(And he'll want to kiss you always!)

But "muziko" and his tragically bad acting has spawned a thread that's gone on this long?! Why of course it has!

John Lee Hooker could not perform lead-guitar for the life of him.But on his better days he could sing the blues...

70's Blues Rock and the old stuff is really good. Everything after 77 with blues sucks, they hit the high notes like they're hard to play and somehow mystical, rewrite the same muddy waters songs and they're all old white guys. so yeah, a lot of it is shit, but when it's good, IT IS REALLY GOOD.

Anyone mention Freddie King? I got suppliers hounding me, so no time to read all the society pages.

Z knew what was what, strings-wise. Watch a video, or listen to a song. He had it all.
