People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.

George Bernard Shaw

Darn tootin', Geo!

awesome quote aspy! if more people thought like this, we'd have less people blaming their own problems on other people....

Exactly what I thought when I read it john. I'm so sick to death of the people who are quite happy settling into the role of victim all of the time, the "WOE IS ME" attitude. Aint got a job? THEN GO GET ONE AND STOP CRYING ABOUT IT!!!
While I'm ranting, you know what else I'm sick of seeing? I'm sick of the ubiquitous books, on the subject of child abuse, poverty stricken childhoods etc etc......"A Child Called It", "Wasted", "The Price Of Love", "For The Love Of My Mother"... it seems people just see that they can make money from being a "victim" so they go ahead and write a book, whether they've got on with their lives or not. Maybe that's just the cynic in me, I totally empathise with people who suffer in this way, and it must be like a living hell to go through what some of these people have, but does everyone have to crawl out of the woodwork and share their stories with us, just because one person did it? I have no doubt that it may well be therapeutic to write about such issues, but it drives me completely insane. OK, rant over hahaha.

^^ agreed, there are some definitely unfortunate circumstances for many people in the world, but it certainly doesn't give other people with basically no problems to go and cry wolf. it is sickening, and the ones who actually need help arent the ones that get it, because the crybabies get it, when they dont necessarily need it.

"Take time to accept responsibility. Your life is exactly that - It's your life. It is created by you. You are constantly making choices, constantly creating new experiences. And although we can be affected by circumstances which can seem to be completely out of our control. Essentially, we decide the direction in which we walk."

By all means, get married. If you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you have a bad wife, you'll be a philosopher.

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it’s in my control." - JFK

(paraphrased, but quite useful in my experience)

"You can get away with a lot of shit, if you look like you know what you're doing."
