yes he did... but in one interview FZ said this about, that only 2 guys came on audition for stunt guitar, or something like that...
but I wasn't appealing on that moment, I was thinking more about other, later stuff in RHCP...

I read that he was going to, but he wanted to keep up with the drugs/alcohol that comes with touring, and that's why he didn't audition.

I wouldn't say "No way", but I really doubt Frank knew or would comment on Frusciante.

Interesting - he could have saved him from wasting his time with the Chili Peppers. Now if only someone would go back in time to save Flea from that band.

They're not without highlights - I was just raving about Blood Sugar Sex Magik to someone last week - but I think Flea could be put to better use in a band that focused more on instrumental music. John at least has an outlet for that when he chooses. As rock drummers go, yeah, Chad Smith does some nice stuff. I don't get Anthony Keidis. I've tried for 20 years, and I still just don't get it.

Thats truly interesting abount Frusciante and Zap. I love the Chili Peppers; some of their stuff is hit or miss with me. They were one of the first bands I can remember liking in fact; their "What Hits?" album is great...

All interviews state that he did not audition. As mentioned above, he chose deliberately a rock life, and knew Frank's anti-drugs stance. He could, however, according to himself play most of Zappa's difficult parts.

He is a fabulous guitar player, and I really like his work with RHCP. Their live performances are generally great, with lots of Hendrix-inspired playing by John.
