From what I've read, this exchange occurred on the Joe Pine (could be Pyne) Show out of LA in the late 60's.

Funnily enough, I was reading a book (for work) about Influence Principles, by Robert Cialdini. In the last chapter he starts to relate what he described as "the best extemporaneous comeback" of all time. Apparently this Joe Pine was well known on his show for putting people down and making fools of them. He's described as a fairly bitter personage who lost his leg during WWII.

The quotation in that book was pretty much as you wrote it, as I remember. I'll take a look and post the original that I read.

Great quote. I always liked to hear or see Frank do interviews - he was so fucking smart and fast!
