Thanks for putting this one back in play, mmudshark. It was fun re-reading all that "Christ on a Bike" stuff. Aspy-yet another new term you turned me on tom, and now I remember where exactly I got it from!

My personal favorite interjection at the moment is "Jesus Christ on a Whole Wheat Bun!"

Hahahahahahahaha!! Love it! One of my Bro in laws faves is "I'd rather let you set fire to my hair and then put it put with a spade". Hahaha. Ive been using the word "bellend" a lot lately as well, as an insult. I cant help but laugh every time I say it.

Frank Zappa was half right in my opinion. We are going through a dead period in music, what with bands redoing classics like Behind Blue Eyes and ruining them, or bands poorly writing songs like Fallout Boy (though I give them more credit than the former).

Something we have to realize is that the underground is larger than ever before as well and that there are plenty of good bands that sometimes are just under the radar. Good examples are bands like Coheed and Cambria and Dreamtheater who have a huge amount of talent in their bands.

Even better, check out this interview excerpt from WAY back in 1984...seems Frank was onto something:

Steve Birchall: Speaking of videos, what do you think about the possibility of distributing digital music on the cable TV systems?

Frank Zappa: Well, actually, I made a proposal and tried to raise some money to do that exact thing -- with a couple of extra wrinkles. I almost managed to do it, but the problem we came up against is the bit stream rate on the cable. It's too slow.

Steve Birchall: But if you can put it onto a VCR, why can't you put it through a cable channel?

Frank Zappa: It's a matter of quantity -- how much time. What are you going to do, just send it down the pike in real time?

Steve Birchall: Why not?

Frank Zappa: What I had proposed was a computerized data bank system. You could dial up a number to order a digital album, pay with your credit card, and you'd have it. Just plunk it onto your Sony PCM-F1 or whatever. The system would have to operate faster than real time, otherwise you just couldn't distribute enough music. But the facilities to do that don't exist. To send an album down a wire in real time is possible, but that means everybody has to listen to the same thing at the same time, so it's just like radio.

Steve Birchall: It gets to be a matter of scheduling, but it's a way of distributing music and charging people.

Frank Zappa: So you send something down the line digitally, and it gets played back on little tiny speakers in a little tiny room where they can't turn it up enough to have it do anything with the volume, and then what have you got? You just reduce the hiss for everyone. You still have to squash the bandwidth to get it through all of that stuff, so it's really kind of preposterous.

I wonder what FZ would have thought about this theory of mine; that somewhere, somebody died who would have been great, and that screwed up the evolution of music nowadays.

Keep in mind that it's not finished yet. I still have an entire webpage to write!

Yeah... I'd rather poke myself in the eyes with shitty sticks covered in rusty nails, while being forced to listen to Celine Dion songs on repeat, than watch any kind of spacker remake like that.
I feel for you but must ask one question....why did you watch it? 8)

Yeah I enjoyed the original purely, as you say, for the creepy value. Made me chuckle quite a bit too.
