PostPosted: Mon Dec 30, 2002 8:05 am
How about other artists quoting Zappa one way or another... Here's two for starters, one very dumb, one not so dumb:

"I respected him and I know he respected me."
-- Lou Reed.

"Frank Zappa was my Elvis."
--Matt Groening.
Frank Zappa was the greatest guitar player that I ever saw. One night, him and Jimi were jammin together.
all I can remember is Jimi standin there with his mouth wide open.

Alice Cooper

Adrian Belew:

"When you come face to face with a genius its undeniable.
From my first handshake with Frank in 1977 to our last private talk in his living room
just months before his death, he seemed surrounded by the urgent aura of
someone meant to create something no one else could.
Not surprisingly, Frank was driven: the hardest working musician ive ever seen.
Very serious about his music and its treatment, yet clearly enjoying his unique position
as a creative force known and revered troughout the world"
Because Zappa composed as a playing musician, the structure of his work is weak. He couldn't plan something over longer periods as classical composers do, because he played everything directly into the synclavier. He worked in fragments and layers put over each other... etc. ( Telegraaf 13-06-2000).

Frank Zappa is the most untalented musician I've ever heard... He can't play rock 'n roll because he's a loser...
Roy Estrada, from this interview

Quote:
IB: Aside from the sex and drugs, what are your fondest memories of those early days?

RE: The fun we had on stage, especially when we made Frank laugh – to the point of falling over. Then his eyes would get glassy, and he would go into the realms of uncharted music.

I love that.
