Arthur Barrow performance on Joe's Garage is indeed impressive...

I'm convinced it's Barrow after hearing him live on a couple of bootlegs.

it seems most ppl are really into AB!

since i'm not a fan of this era of zappa (i only like joe's garage) and i REALLY don't like the bass over-dubs on CWRATJ (no matter "how much better he played them", or "how much better they sound"), i've never really listened to him play, and i had to read about him.

according to wikipedia he played in a jazz group with don preston and bruce fowler before he played with zappa?

Quite a hard question. Although they were all outstanding, I will pick Arthur Barrow, just for his sense of improvisation and bass fillings during the numerous spoken parts on stage (see "Tinsel Town Rebellion" for instance).
