Apparently not.

Have you spoken with todays' youth? If it happened before the interweb they expect it to be taught in history. Fucking youthless lot.

Oh ya! It was out of Chicago, our second city, and had Andrea Mitchell,Joe Flarhety,Martin Short,Dan Aykroyd,John Bulushi,John Candy and the list goes on.It was the premeire place for Improv before SNL.In fact that's where most of the cast from SNL comes from. The show SCTV,had no studio audience like SNL,but in alot of ways it was more risque and funnier too. They had alot of great writers.Tina Fey,Gildna Radner,Al Frankin started there also.
One of FZ's favorite shows had Joe Flarhety doing a spoof of scary movies.(think Cheapnis) He's dressed up like a vampire with a little cape on and turns to the camera, raises an eyebrow and sez,"mwahaha".That cracked Frank up! FZ thought that one word and Joe Flarhety's get-up were the perfect/simplest way to discribe "Cheapnis".
So you should definetly check it out.Toronto had a show too, with alot of the same people involved.I believe it all started around 1959,with a show out of Toronto featuring Alan Arkin,Melinda Dillion,Jack Burns,Joan Rivers, and whole lot more.
Wiki it.Lots of current history there. You'll love it.Your pupils will love it.Trust me! 8)

...in Italy we have a large litterature about this...years ago I explained something about "Dio Fa" meaning for instance...

my favourite ones are:

"testa di minchia" (classical one)

and

"minus habens" (featuring a colleague of mine)

Had a disturbing conversation about this very topic with my fourth grade class this past year. I was telling them about the history of computers, showing old images, and told them it wasn't until the late 90's most people had PCs at home. They all wanted to know how on earth we got to the internet before we had computers. They simply could not comprehend the fact that there was a period of time when the net was not available.
