In my travels as a full blown Zappa freak since 1973, I have not encountered alot of female Zappa freaks in all that time. As a matter of fact, I don't remember meeting any! Is this because women found him to be tasteless or chauvinistic? If there are any girls that like Zappa out there in this forum, I would be really interested in what your favorite Zappa album is! This is not an attempt to pick a girl up, as I am happily married but very curious. My wife of 32 years enjoys certain songs but is no way a true Zappa Freak. She listens to it because of me and I've always respected her for that. Let me and others know what your favorite album is and why!

Mind you, the only males I know who like Zappa are in my family (my brother, my uncle), although my little sister's a bit of a fan too.

My wife went to the 1980 concert and loved it, but never has been much of a fan (we have an understanding there), but I took booth of my daughters who have listened a lot over the years to the first ZPZ concert at the Warfield (final show of tour) and they thought it was fantastic. My older daughter who lives in Rohde Island wanted to see them this tour but the first leg had no nearby sites and the PNT'09 show in Boston which she would have went to occurs when she is visiting here in California, bad timing.

One Size Fits All and Roxy and Elsewhere are my two favorites. I've read The Real Frank Zappa about 3 times and will surely read again. Yes, I am a girl and I am a Zappa freak!

My ex-wife said she liked the music but hated his singing and talking. Hey, I gave her a chance. Now she is underneath the lawn.

my wife pretended to be a zappa fan all the while we were going out. it wasn't until we got married, i found out she only liked 3 tracks from the sheik yerbouti album, jewish princess, bobby brown and broken hearts are for assholes. She did buy me 200 motels on CD while we were going out though, so i decided to marry her. All my other girlfriends before her thought he was shit, so it was a giant leap

My wife doesn't like him. I don't think I've ever dated anybody that liked him.

I recently lent Strictly Genteel to Disco Girl...and she actually liked it.

So the plan now is to burn her an instrumental disc of FZ's non classical material and see if she digs it. And if she does...I'm not sure what to do next because she doesn't like his lyrical/vocal material (and that's putting it nicely)...

I've tried to convert/introduce people but for some unaccountable reason I've failed. Their loss.

That makes me the only female fan I currently know personally, and Mr Floss is the only male fan I know personally. We used to know a couple of others but lost touch decades ago.

Couldn't pick a favourite album, or track. Can only pick a few tracks I DON'T like.

Smitten since '71.

There's at least 3 of'em that spring to my mind that do think he's funny, but at
least 10 - 15 who confirmed to me that they really think he looked PHANTASTIC!

Here's my experience with women and music. This is a generalization, of course. There are exceptions. But by and larger, for the most part, I've found this:

1) When women hear a familiar song that they like they say "Oh I love that song!" Typically, they don't know the name of the band or the title of the song. They often can sing along with part of the words from the chorus, but they still usually don't know the name of the song or who does it.

2) Anything that requires active listening with any kind of depth is not a good song. They will talk over it.

3) Anything they can dance to is a good song.

Zappa? Forget about it.

The women I have know who do like Zappa are typically outsiders and use their "I'm into Zappa" as a badge of their outsider-ness.

As far as guys go, the few guys I know who are into Zappa are musicians themselves.

i generally find that the uglier the woman, the better taste in music she has. Of course it's not 100% accurate, as some ugly women don't like music at all. good looking women normally listen to shit, plastic music because their life revolves around attracting a rich, plastic man. Of course, not all women are as 2 dimensional as this, but the vast majority of them are. I can only assume that ugly women have better taste in music for 1 of 2 reasons. Either they ensure they spend a lot of time around men, in the hope that sometimes their male friends get drunk enough to fuck them (and we've all done it) and therefore become accustomed to the music their male friends listen to. Or they genuinely like the music because they're so unfeminine, they actually exhibit male traits.

In the rare cases where good looking women do have good taste in music, it's normally the result of some childhood trauma.

To expand on that, I think most women like music (songs) by "cute" singers who sing about "love" or "attraction" or "relationships". Women also tend to like female artists who sing about their longing for love or their frustration with relationships. Most male "music lovers" tend to be just as shallow. They want songs/bands that "rock" and reflect their male viewpoint (i.e. I really wanna get laid). There nothing really wrong with any of this, it's just guys being guys and girls being girls. However, there are some people, both men and women, who want and expect more from music, and are willing to seek it out and appreciate it.

What, you don't think there are tendencies in male and female behavior? Are you above talking about this topic? If you did would that make you part of a qlique (sic)? That wouldn't be very cool would it?
