This interview appeared in the September 1979 issue of the Dutch professional music magazine Music Maker. (Yes, Slime has it)
I just translated it for your entertainment.

Because the guy who wrote it is not exactly Anthony Burgess, the language is a bit crooked. I didn't feel like enhancing the style too much, but there's one line I had to leave out because the more times I read it, the more confusing its message became.

interesting article, and excellent translation, thanks

the guy has a semi-engaging style & tries to be non-judgemental

Temporarily re-allowed member sign-up!

I still have a number of magazines I could translate. An interesting one is the OOR post mortem on FZ, which has the Anton Corbijn zappa photo with the Dalmatian (I'd never known Corbijn photographed FZ) and an interview with the Grandmothers, who were scheduled to play Amsterdam when the news hit.

Nope, but you could make a nice photo of it so I can translate it.
Of the Dutch mags in your collection I have that '07 Music Maker, '79 Music Maker, 2009 VPRO guide, 1994 OOR. I also have an 80-something Vinyl which published an FZ interview in two parts, unfortunately I only have the second which doesn't have Uncle Frank on the cover.

don't have that one, your choice would be better, anything like an interview or intelligent article

That one page you link to is a tad disappointing.
Quote:
The controversial Frank Zappa, leader of the Mothers of Invention, has left this group. With his last LP Uncle Meat, it became clear that Zappa has reached his goal. Continuing the Mothers would be pointless for him. Currently Zappa works as road manager for Captain Beefheart, a group that comes to The Netherlands this winter. Now with

(line below was apparently supposed to have text, but it doesn't and the article is a tad disappointing.)

Will carry on with the rest.
Did you read the Hitweek translations I made? They're in the General board at the Goose.

excellent, thanks for the efforts; tried using ocr, then google translate on some of my non-english articles, with disappointing results ... those hitweek translations are also great

Dad linked me up to that yesterday. I've only done the first two pages of the Zeeuwse Courant, there's hours of work in that, I still need 10 pages... so don't expect that to be done soon.

It's been great to get more insight into the Holland Festival thing. There have been more screw-ups between FZ and HF, the earliest one in 1970.

Fabulous work, Bonny! Nice to read how much more appreciated he was in your corner of the world than in mine.

Thanks! It is a lot of work, so I can appreciate any publicity: spread the word!

I've just started on the Frizian newspapers Slime posted. The first batch is up:
http://packardgoose.ploeg.ws/interactive/forums/Files/viewthread.php?tid=539#pid13747

Contains a review of his first concert, an interview with Don Preston and a lovely article about the first four Zappa records. Ever expanding!!

slowly reading my way thru these, some very entertaining stuff; many thanks for the easy reading translations, including all the explanations of names etc.

even the reviews whether +/- give some insight into what the general zappa-acceptance factor was in those days
