Animals is one of my favorite albums from anyone. I also like DSOTM, WYWH, and the Wall. Amazingly I've listened to little else of the PF catalog (except for the odd song here or there).
It's interesting how so many hardcore fans have Animals right near the top of their list, when it's generally considered a difficult, even failed album. The hardcores know the score, as with Zappa's Burnt Weeny Sandwich. Animals is a sandwich of sorts, as well. Another possible Zappa link: The reference to Easy Meat in Dogs.

Btw, has anyone heard the new Discovery, Experience & Immersion remastered editions that just came out? I've heard the Discovery editions and the sound quality has noticeably improved...
I bought the remastered A Saucerful of Secrets, because I've never been happy with the sound of the CD. It's definitely worth having the new version - it's almost like a new classic Pink Floyd album. It sounds much more powerful and cohesive (and I don't think it's because the dynamic range is sqeezed, either).
I got Piper and Dark Side (2CD) for Christmas. I've only listened to the live disc of DSOTM so far. It's worth having, but not as essential to me as the remastered Saucerful of Secrets. You know - it's just the 1974 live version of Dark Side.
And of course I had to get the WYWH Experience (2CD), when Santa didn't bring it along. As with DSOTM, I've only listened to the bonus disc so far. But that's simply a must for any Floyd fan - love that disc. Every track on there is exceptional, with the only fault that Waters' vocals are pretty strained in Raving and Drooling and You Gotta Be Crazy. But you can't live without those epic versions, and then you get Grapelli's violin in the title track, and so on. I even love the track from Household Objects. WYWH Experience (2CD) - an essential Pink Floyd album.
