What music does he play? Haven't heard of him. Is he in a band?

Must be a protest band, since Michael Moore is in it.

I saw Han Bennink at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival a few years back. A tall, lanky Dutchman. He performed with Peter Brötzmann, as I recall. Bennink literally played the stage. That's what he does - drums on everything. Sometimes it can get dangerous, because he's so intense, and the drum sticks fly around the room. His father played percussion with a symphony orchestra, and little Han was something of a child prodigy on drums. Later he turned onto free jazz and stayed there. I don't think Zappa played with him. Zappa wasn't very sympathetic to the wildest strains of free improvisation. When Ben Watson played him a track with Derek Bailey and a drummer, he asked Ben to turn it off - not because he didn't like it, but he was too tired, it didn't give him much, and he figured he could have played that music on his own - guitar and drums simultaneously.

I know of him from various recordings with Chadbourne.

Bennink is the man. Saw him a couple of years ago perform w/ Charles Gayle as a duo. I need to check out some recordings of him. Been watching the Brotzmann DVD docu "Soldier Of The Road". I suppose I should start w/ "Machine Gun". Everybody do yourself a favor, go to youtube and check out his "cheese drum" solo.
