RE: A remark in the "GZ sez" area shook the cobwebs out of my brain.

I believe the quilt is in the Hard Rock Cafe, Atlantic City, New Jersey. I know it was there in '98 or '99. A friend of mine took a picture of it, and then I saw it myself some time later.

I wish there was a large format photograph or poster if it. It is quite astonishing: It depicts FZ as a playing card (Queen of Hearts?), both right side up and upside down. Absolutely amazing work of art.

Have you tried Google? I thought it was in Biloxi.

Wasn't it at the Rock & Roll Hall of fame for a while? Maybe it is in their warehouse, how did the Zappa family lose control of this item?

It was never theirs to control - I believe Frank just took donations for it. And I don't think it was ever in the Hall Of Fame....although I did think it was in a different Hard Rock.

He who controls the Quilt becomes the Quiltmaster and, as such, gains rightful access to the Vault. 8)

From a web page

The Panty Rap Quilt is on permanent display at
The Hard Rock Cafe - Atlantic City - Inside the Taj Mahal.
As promised, we made the trek to the Taj and photographed the quilt.

He collected the garments and turned them over to a seamstress, who made the quilt, then who got it?

Does anybody know the story here, maybe we can get back to Frank for a change from who's Political choice has a bigger dick... :smoke:

Anybody will know who heard Tinsel Town Rebellion

Lyrics Panty Rap
"Hello there, welcome to the show. No, we're not going to play 'Cheepnis'--that's right--but we are collecting underpants, and we are collecting brassieres, we are collecting small articles of feminine underclothing. We are making a quilt . . . really--trust me. So here's the deal, if you're a girl and you're wearing a dress, whip 'em off, that's it, see? No problem. Even with a pin . . . what does it say? 'Nobody's perfect'. I guess so . . . What we got here? Oh. Now let's see what's on the inside. Uh huh, trainer coos. Okay. S'more, s'more . . . Underpants, brassieres, just send 'em up, no problem. Oh, you'll warm up to it. If you're wearing pants and you have bikinis on underneath your pants, rip the edges and pull 'em out; if you're wearing those big old ugly cotton jobs go to the toilet and take 'em off, okay? So far, ladies and gentlemen, the response from this particular community has not been especially gratifying. Perhaps you're a little bit too intellectual here. Here's something . . . tasteful, very tasteful . . . You'll get into it. Oh, some more--look--it's almost like going to a, well, never mind. Heh, heh, heh. I just want to remind you that you are in direct competition with Chicago, which so far has produced the highest yield of female underclothes of any place in the United States."

In the Tinsel Town Rebellion cover says Collecting for woman in Colorado don't say here name though, who is called Emily James of Lyons Colorado, first seen Denver art gallery in 1983.

VS: Good business sense we call it. But anyway, let's return to the glorious front of the quilt. When and on what stage did you show it to Frank?

AJ: I made certain that Frank saw it as it went along. I visited his home/studio during the time I was making the border. I showed him the center section about 3/4ths complete during a concert in Denver - probably 1982. He saw pictures at the end. While he made positive comments to me about the finished product, he disowned it publically. When MTV called for comments he said "No comment." I think that was because it was no longer all about him and not easy publicity. Also he was not doing rock and roll that year, was spending time with the San Francisco symphony and I think the underwear publicity didn't fit his schedule. By the way, he never saw it complete, only in pictures.

Well, at least with his looks there's a chance that he'll get some underwear without him having to ask for it...
