Hi,

From the other post (cut down considerably!)

Quote:
...
Interviewer:
Jimi Hendrix?
Frank Zappa:
I knew Jimi and I think that the best thing you could say about Jimi was: there was a person who shouldn't use drugs.

Interviewer:
Lowell George?
Frank Zappa:
There's another guy who shouldn't use drugs.

Interviewer:
Eric Clapton?
Frank Zappa:
I know Eric, I haven't seen him in years and years. There's another guy who shouldn't use drugs.

Interviewer:
Jimmy Page?
Frank Zappa:
I don't know anything about Jimmy Page.

Interviewer:
As you said you don't listen to popular music so I don't expect you know Eddie Van Halen.
Frank Zappa:
I do know Eddie. He comes over to the house because he hangs out with my son.
Interviewer:
I see. But do you know him as a guitar player?
Frank Zappa:
Oh yeah. He and my son play together and he's fabulous, but there's another guy who shouldn't use drugs.

Some interesting bits here ... I like the fact that he said something about the drugs ... which is not a discussion that we can digest very well, becasue we're not sure the role that the drugs played in the music of many.

Frank not saying anything about Keith ... is understandable ... specially when one considers that Keith has so often been totally out of it, and the Stones were nowhere near as good as any album they ever did!

The comment about Jimi is fair ...

Lowell George ... prophetic words! Or he already saw that coming!

Eric ... 'nuff said ... but notice he didn't say anything about the playing!

Jimmy ... easy one ... but the story is on the Pamela books, the first and 2nd. It was not "stated" conclusively, but it is likely that more than one of Pam's rehabs or such came because of Zep. It is also likely that at least one of them spent time there, and it might have been easy to .... say a million things about it! Probably best left unsaid! Funny thing here on Jimmy's ability ... check out "It's Gonna Get Loud" and Gomelsky's comments ... Jimmy knew music very well and could sight read it ... but the likelihood is that the drugs just ate him up in concert ... and it made him sloppy as some have suggested.

Eddie ... everyone knew this one ... but in other places it was stated that Steve Vai was the one that gave guitar lessons to Dweezil, not Eddie.

But there is a point ... where drugs might not have anything to do with the "notes" or "chords" that you play, when you are too out of it to "know" which ones they are but it all feels good to you and you just play ... you are not likely to know how you did it, or to repeat the same thing, and this is ... the history ... of all the early Fillmore stuff ... is more than likely trashed, because only the "good parts" of all the stuff played never reached an LP ... maybe a couple of bootlegs ... because what you heard from the radio ... or the LP, was definitly NOT what was being played!

Makes you wonder how Iron Butterfly got their whole thing done on LP, doesn't it?
