I have never owned any sort of electronic, hand-held music player. I recently have been considering purchasing one to plug into the stereo system in my car so I can listen to all my my Zappa cds on random. I am hoping to put my entire collection (meaning his entire official output) onto one music device and I am wondering if anyone knows about how much storage space I would need on the device I chose to purchase. Has anyone else out there done so? Thanks in advance.

i have every single official release in a folder that consists of mostly 192 rips of everything. there are a few repeats as I also have most vinyl rips in stereo and mono versions as well as the EMI CDs and some as FLACs. That folder is 16gb.

Just get a 32gb or 64gb player.

Back in 2004 I went abroad and I made mp3 rips (must have been 192 kbps as well, but could be less) of all my Zappa released catalogue up to around Lost Episodes. If I remember well the whole thing fitted 6 regular 700 Mb CD-R (I remember reducing the quality of The Torture from YCDTOSA Vol. 1 to make all 6 volumes fit one CD)... I have long lost those, only seen my CDRVol. 2 around lately...

The meaning of the word:

us
Pronoun:

Used by a speaker to refer to himself or herself and one or more other people as the object of a verb or preposition: "let us know".

So, I have to ask, are you trying to say that you and other people you know are jaypfunk's boyfriend?

On my mp3 player, the FZ folder with the CDs ripped as FLAC files of all official releases + Beat The Boots 1 & 2 + EMI releases + a few other stuff (LSO single album, Strictly Commercial JP & EU, Ensemble Modern's GP&OS, 3 * AAAFNRAA & Cucamonga!) takes around 54 GB.
On my previous player, some years ago while everything was stored as 320 kbps mp3, I think it took around 14 GB, but there were a bit less releases at the time.
If you intend to store bootlegs, vinyl rips and other alternate versions, it may take a shitload of extra space.

123 folders (one folder per release, so many folders have fulders in them for each individual disc), 17.5 gigs. All official releases and BTB, 16 saved 'obtained' boots, PIB as a separate folder, a folder of all the bundles but only with real FZ material, there is a lot of it
