I can think of three albums off the top of my head where somebody involved was known to have been on acid during the making, Pink Floyd- piper at the gates of dawn (sid barret), the mothers of invention- freak out (producer) and funkadelic- free your mind and your ass will follow (whole band)

anybody else know any?

Hi,

The Bonzo Dog Band's first album more than likely.

I would imagine that the Beatles "Sgt Peppers" and "Magical Mystery Tour" had their work mostly done stoned, and cleaned up later.

Amon Duul/Amon Duul 2 -- the original, was just a drum/music circle designed for meditation, fun and ducking! Which AD2 made fun of later with "Phallus Dei". And in the sequence in the piece, it is pretty obvious ... you get stoned, and then you trip, and then you party! Later in AD2's Yeti album (following Phallus Dei) there is at least one piece (Sandoz in the Rain). Dance of the Lemmings is the ultimate LSD album ... for rock music that is ... indescribable and if you can appreciate lyrics like ... Mona Lisa you got a bird brain ... and things like Dehypnotized Toothpaste. Their last "psychedelic album" was "Wolf City" which is one of the best rock albums ever done!

Sadistic Mika Band - 1st album. A satire album on hit radio music, is a psychedelic delight and a totally crazy album.

Ash Ra Tempel/Cosmic Couriers - They were famous for the drugs and the whole Cosmic Courier set of albums is well known for being so ripped that no one knew what they were doing ... but in the end, when you listen to it, it gives creedence to the fact that we do not have to "know" what we're playing in order to do it right and well. Some magnificent stuff here, although some will say ... those are just jams ... but then that's like saying that the Filmore never had a jam in its life! You probably never heard those jams anyway, so you might not know what this is all about.

Guru Guru - Their early albums were all jams and they were stoned senseless. There are interviews on the net with Helmut Hattler saying funny things like ... him looking at Mani and saying ... play something ... and he goes ... go ahead ... and somehow they came together for some outstanding and fabulous stuff. These folks were the LEAST afraid band EVER in terms of rock music freedom! I often think that this is some of the stuff that Jimi Hendrix wanted to play around with that he was not allowed to by the American record companies.

There are plenty more and too many people are way too afraid to admit it ... but Crosby, Stills and Nash have been known to be so ripped they could barely stand up ... and David has admitted to it ... but somehow they could always sing together. Lastly, John Sebastian (Lovin Spoonful) in the Woodstock film was so ripped he could barely say anything.

List is endless ... but too many of these people are not honest enough to admit it and discuss it ...

Several by Gong, The Legendary Pink Dots, and Tear Garden. Listening to a Tear Garden compilation at the moment actually and drooling over Ophelia.

Most likely recorded under the influence of every recreational drug available to rock stars in the mid 1970s.

Didn't they say that about Zappa's early albums, too?

Could be, but Fleetwood Mac have publicly admitted it!
