My axe-wielding is the stuff of legend, Cal. Just ask my mother. She'll set you straight.

Eric Clapton number 2? I have never understood the fascination with that guy's guitar playing, he's mediocre at best. And he mostly used other artists to come up with material. Hendrix on the other hand was a true original. For me, to be a great guitarist you have to be an inspired composer as well.

Bruce Springsteen. In concert, he's not really a guitar player/performer-even on his solo acoustic tour-he hardly played it. The guitar is a prop. I chuckle reading the list seeing Alex Lifeson ranked lower than Bruce.

On the plus side this list considers style and influence but on the other hand totally ignores universally praised jazz, fusion, and other great players (McLaughlin, Di Meola, Holdsworth, Gatton, Vai, Satriani, etc.).

Ok, just noticed McLaughlin's on the list edging out Jack White, lmao.

I removed Frank Zappa because:

I think that I shouldn't be rated as a guitarist. I think that rating guitarists is the kind of a thing that, uh, that's a stupid hobby is rating guitar players.

Did he really say that? He is an interesting guitarist. I have his Earth + Sky album - I like it.

It's not going to be much of a thread if you remove most of the guitarists yourself.

Agree that SJ is useless. Ron Asheton had some fun sloppiness. But, Johnny Ramone was great. He understood tone.

if a person wanted to hear a more varied style this list ain't it. No Django, Charlie Christian,Steve Khan,Leo Kotke, Segovia, Jorma Koukonen, just to name a few.
