I think an honest critic should state things in perspective.
He may like or not what he sees and it's OK. But he has to think that somebody somewhere might be a fan. I think he must report exactly what he hear/see without coloration.
And, at the end of his report, it would be OK for me if he says what himself is feeling about the show if it's done mostly not to destroy the artists he saw on stage.
You'd have objectivity, so you could make up your mind about the show, and a bit of subjectivity, so you could make up your mind about the critic ! (and become one yourself ?) 8)

Critics, for the most part, suck. Especially in our particular geographical region, Arkay (except for Neil Tesser...). It's one of the most pointless occupations I can think of, next to "greeter" at Wal-Mart.

I remember a one word review that Considine wrote years ago about the GTR album- "SHT". I don't know if that qualifies as great journalism, but it's the only review that I can remember word for word. I think that was probably the inspiration for the fictional review of Spinal Tap's "Shark Sandwich" from the movie-"Shit Sandwich".

A lot of 'em make me spew . What "qualifications" do you need to basically voice your own opinion on anything - if you don't like it then it doesn't mean it's shite . Probably one of the easiest jobs in the world . How the fcuk can you justify your existence by being a "style commentator" / "fashion expert(ha!)" / "blah blah correspondent"? All on a free ride and up their own arses - anyone with half a brain takes no notice of these twats .
We have the right to make up our own mind !!

I'm originally from Cleveland. You gotta read this about what passes for a 'Rock Critic' there.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A42769-2002May6.html
