I've been playing both alternately on my guitar for the last 2 hours, and am of the belief that they are the man's finest guitar pieces. Even if you don't agree with that, I'm still curious to know which you prefer.

I gotta give it to Image

The melody is just as beautiful as "Watermelon", and on top of that, there are some mindbending scales and completely fucked up sounds coming out of the man's guitar.

Image

i'd give a slight edge to b.napkins, only because whenver i listen to it, i let torture play thru, & the 2 tracks are highly complimentary...to me, torture is kind of an extension of black napkins.....i must say that watermelon brings out more emotional reation, probably because of the build-up in the opening bars...it generates anticipation & i try not to think ahead in the song, but let it develop on it's own

...[glow=red,2,300]Watermelon[/glow] 'cause I think it is the only one in his genre... and I love the central scrutyniser's introduction to the song... it creates a great ambient for the musical-emotion.

I like Black Napkins a lot better. Watermelon was always a bit too laid back for me. I like his more intense playing better.

No fair! I cannot decide.

I am curious what mindbending scales you have been playing over the BN groove? I have it programmed on my rhythm box and I play over it usually with a C# minor scale and its derivatives, occasionally throwing in a B flat and a D.

I have been jamming on Treacherous Cretins lately and it usually uses the following pitches: C#, D, E, F, G, A, and B. The chords are D minor with a major 7 (DFAC#) and A major. It's really been bending my mind lately.

VCF (voltage control filter; that guitar effect about 1/2 way through Black Napkins [Zoot Allures version])
