Just like all professional musicians, FZ and his rockin' teenage combo never performed on stage for free. But I always wondered how much FZ would ask. Any ideas?

interesting question. well i went to a small state school in upstate vermont a year or so back, and for "big" names (like mmw, scofield, ween, p funk, roots, etc) we would pay about $20,000-$25,000, or maybe a little more. I would guess in today's US dollars fz would get an average of $35,000-$40,000 a gig at theatres here in the states. more if they were ampitheatres/arenas. or maybe (it should be) more? (can you put a $ amount on talent like this?). come on jimmie, we need more help here, throw us some #'s. ;)

[tt]this is all pure speculation on my part:[/tt]

in '74 frank played ±148 shows
average of 10,000 seats/venue
assume all sold out at an average of $10 a seat total gate is $120,000 per show or ....
$14,800,000 for the year plus t-shirt revenue

venue's whack was maybe 10%
agent's whack was maybe 30%
band was on salary of $250/week each plus a per diem, cost him maybe 2%
promo: 10% or $1.5 million
expenses & equipmet: 10%

frank's end is about 38% or $5,624,000
uncle sam puts a 40% whack on that which leaves frank with:

$3,374,400

or about $22,800 per show

buys alot of winston's

Compare it with a Baseball player, a Basketball player, or even a Hockey player.

Just for fun, we found out what Jacques Villeneuve (F1 racer who signed a 20million US$ a year contrat) did each day he worked that year. He made more than 185,000US$.

And I guess we could say a lot about a guy like Tiger Woods.

But, right, we're talking 1974 money. It was lot of money back then. But I suspect he didn't made all that money. Otherwise, he would have put some material out like 'Uncle Meat' a lot sooner. Only my feeling but I can't imagine Frank doing 3M a year.

But I could be wrong

$10 a show seems a little optimistic for 74 prices i recon - like i dont know for a fact as i was 6 in 1974 but just thinkin.
factor in tax and union fees too, plus the fees for those expensive copyist people to transcribe the contemporary ( how i hate that word - be thankful i didnt put it in italics with a dictionary definition below - eat my puke darling ) orchestra stuff and all the lost cash from aborted euro tours and can see that any mega star bucks soon got expended fast. he spent it all on music i recon. i suppose that stuff plus home studio equipment is lots more expensive that coke and shelias.
i bet moon, diva, dwezil and ahmet cost a buck or too. and how many pairs of shoes does gail have ?

who knows

mungo
